Focused ultrasound is gaining attention as an innovative non-invasive and potentially cell-type selective neuromodulation technology with high spatial resolution. However, the underlying biophysical mechanisms of ultrasound neuromodulation (UNMOD) are not well understood. The UNMOD project aims to establish the first experimentally validated computational pipeline of ultrasound propagation and axonal response for peripheral nerve stimulation, and to share it through the o2S2PARC-platform for open, FAIR and collaborative computational neurosciences. The model shall integrate a broad set of candidate mechanisms of ultrasound-electrophysiology coupling.
