In this paper we present Aligned Scores and Performances (ASAP): a new dataset of 222 digital musical scores aligned with 1068 performances (more than 92 hours) of Western classical piano music. The scores are provided as paired MusicXML files and quantized ...

We present a novel method for semantic text document analysis which in addition to localizing text it labels the text in user-defined semantic categories. More precisely, it consists of a fully-convolutional and sequential network that we apply to the part ...

The Mumford-Shah model is a very powerful variational approach for edge preserving regularization of image reconstruction processes. However, it is algorithmically challenging because one has to deal with a non-smooth and non-convex functional. In this pap ...

The rate-distortion performance of a distributed video coding system strongly depends on the characteristics of the side information. One could naively think that the best side information is the one with the largest PSNR with respect to the original corre ...

The aim of information-theoretic secrecy is to ensure that an eavesdropper who listens to the wireless transmission of a message can only collect an arbitrarily small number of information bits about this message. In contrast to cryptography, there are no ...

In the following study is presented two research works: the first is concerned with the elaboration of an intelligent meeting room while the second is about the development of a real time high definition video server capable of advanced accessibility optio ...

In this work we present a method to jointly separate active audio and visual structures on a given mixture. Blind Audiovisual Source Separation is achieved exploiting the coherence between a video signal and a one-microphone audio track. The efficient repr ...

The problem of efficiently representing and approximating digital data is an open challenge and it is of paramount importance for many applications. This dissertation focuses on the approximation of natural signals as an organized combination of mutually c ...

Low bit rate image coding is an important problem regarding applications such as storage on low memory devices or streaming data on the internet. The state of the art in image compression is to use 2-D wavelets. The advantages of wavelet bases lie in their ...

This paper presents an algorithm in a purely lossless text compression setting based on fountain codes and the Burrows-Wheeler transform (BWT). The scheme consists of five stages, each of which is briefly described in the paper. The algorithm offers encour ...

New breakthroughs in image coding possibly rely in signal decomposition through non-separable basis functions. The work proposed in this paper provides an adaptive way of representing images as a sum of two-dimensional features. It presents a low bit-rate ...

In many applications, the amount and resolution of digital images have significantly increased over the past few years. For this reason, there is a growing interest for techniques allowing to efficiently browse and seek information inside such huge data sp ...

Security is at the core of any communication system and, in particular, of wireless (radio) networks. In this thesis, we focus on three important security aspects in the framework of wireless networks: selfish (noncooperative) behavior at the Medium Access ...

This paper presents a highly flexible video coding scheme (MP3D), based on the use of a redundant 3-D spatio-temporal dictionary of functions. Directionality and anisotropic scaling are key ingredients to the spatial components, that form a rich collection ...

We propose a protocol that can be used between an RFID tag and a reader to exchange a secret without performing any expensive computation. Similarly to the famous blocker tag suggested by Juels, Rivest, and Szydlo, our scheme makes use of special tags that ...

Analogue wireless cameras have been employed for decades, however they have not become an universal solution due to their difficulties of set up and use. The main problem is the link robustness which mainly depends on the requirement of a line-of-sight vie ...

Aliasing in images is often considered as a nuisance. Artificial low frequency patterns and jagged edges appear when an image is sampled at a too low frequency. However, aliasing also conveys useful information about the high frequency content of the image ...

Spark-assisted chemical engraving (SACE) is a promising micro-machining technology for the low-cost machining of holes and channels in non-conducting materials, such as glass and some ceramics. Despite the complexity of SACE due to the interdependency of t ...

This paper presents an algorithm to correlate audio and visual data generated by the same physical phenomenon. According to psychophysical experiments, temporal synchrony strongly contributes to integrate cross-modal information in humans. Thus, we define ...

A multimodal probabilistic framework is proposed for the problem of finding the active speaker in a video sequence. We localize the current speaker's mouth in the image by using the video and the audio channels together. We propose a novel visual feature t ...
