Based on a locally resonant metamaterial (LRM) topology, we investigate how the waveguide width Wfilter and the spacing between resonators a can be used as design knobs to control cutoff frequency, RF volume, group delay, and multipactor (MP)-limited power handling (PH), while keeping the same operating frequency and relative bandwidth. Three two-pole X-band meta-filters (“x”, “y” and “z”) are designed to share f0=10.72GHz,w=8.64% and 20 dB return loss, but with different (Wfilter ,a) pairs. Full-wave simulations show that these variants exhibit distinct group-delay profiles and RF volumes. SPARK3D simulation models predict PH capabilities ranging from 75 W to 97.9 kW, highlighting the strong impact of volume and field distribution. One filter is fabricated in aluminum using Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining and experimentally validated. The results demonstrate that (Wfilter ,a) provide powerful degrees of freedom to tailor the time-domain response and PH capabilities without changing the electrical specifications (in terms of f0 and relative bandwidth).
