Abstract

The paper describes the control technique for a matrix converter and it's microcomputer based hardware implementation for a four-quadrant induction motor drive system. Special emphasis is given to the sinusoidal output voltage and input current modulation. Simulation results and experimental results are presented.

Power electronics

Power electronics is the application of electronics to the control and conversion of electric power. The first high-power electronic devices were made using mercury-arc valves. In modern systems, the conversion is performed with semiconductor switching devices such as diodes, thyristors, and power transistors such as the power MOSFET and IGBT. Three-phase squirrel-cage induction motors are widely used as industrial drives because they are self-starting, reliable, and economical.
