Satellite-based retrievals of tropospheric NO(2)columns are widely used to infer NOx (equivalent to NO + NO2) emissions. These retrievals rely on model information for the vertical distribution of NO2. The free tropospheric background above 2 km is particu ...

Ensemble modelling was used to assess the robustness of projected impacts of pumped-storage (PS) operation and climate change on reservoir ice cover. To this end, three one-dimensional and a two-dimensional laterally averaged hydrodynamic model were set up ...

Statistical methods for inference on spatial extremes of large datasets are yet to be developed. Motivated by standard dimension reduction techniques used in spatial statistics, we propose an approach based on empirical basis functions to explore and model ...

A novel technique is proposed for the direct and simultaneous estimation of multiple phase derivatives from a deformation modulated carrier fringe pattern in a multi-wave holographic interferometry set-up. The fringe intensity is represented as a spatially ...

Urban morphology, including building typology and layout, has a significant influence on the built environment’s access to the sun, which impacts its energy exchange with the environment. This energy exchange is a strong factor in determining the comfort l ...

This work is about time series of functional data (functional time series), and consists of three main parts. In the first part (Chapter 2), we develop a doubly spectral decomposition for functional time series that generalizes the Karhunen–Loève expansion ...

Carbon nanofibres (CNFs) were grown on different macrostructured supports such as cordierite monoliths, carbon felts and sintered metal fibres. The resulting composites exhibited excellent resistance to attrition/corrosion and its porosity is mainly due to ...

A hard challenge associated with infrastructure monitoring is to extract useful information from large amounts of measurement data in order to detect changes in structures. This paper presents a hybrid model-free approach that combines two model-free metho ...

The extraction of information from measured data about the interactions taking place in a network of systems is a key topic in modern applied sciences. This topic has been traditionally addressed considering bivariate time series, providing methods that ar ...
