A novel approach which combines isogeometric collocation and an equilibrium-based stress recovery technique is applied to analyze laminated composite plates. Isogeometric collocation is an appealing strong form alternative to standard Galerkin approaches, ...

Reinforced concrete slabs with uniform thickness are common in residential and commercial buildings but can also be found in other types of structures. Such slabs are susceptible to punching shear failures, where a supporting column penetrates through the ...

The performance of 11 different shear reinforcement systems against punching of inner slab-column connections under gravity loading was compared on the basis of experiments on 12 full-scale specimens, 8 of them newly reported. The slab geometry and flexura ...

In this work, the damage dependency on ply thickness is investigated experimentally for three different thin-ply CFRP quasi-isotropic laminates, with constituents spanning a large range of properties. It is shown that free edge damage mechanisms, observed ...

The design of reinforced concrete flat slabs in practice can be governed at failure by punching shear close to concentrated loads or columns. Punching shear resistance formulations provided by codes are calibrated on the basis of experimental tests on isol ...

The influence of the level of deformation of the flexural reinforcement on the punching strength is well-established and mechanically founded since the pioneer works of Kinnunen and Nylander in the 1960’s. In code provisions, this influence is sometimes re ...

The growing need for residential housing in Latin American countries has led to the construction of reinforced concrete buildings with wall thicknesses as low as 8–10 cm. Such walls have typically only a single layer of vertical rebars and are therefore pa ...

Reinforced concrete flat slabs supported by slender columns are often used as gravity load resisting system for buildings in regions of moderate seismicity. Current codes of practice determine the displacement capacity of slab-column connections using empi ...

The influence of material heterogeneities is studied in the context of dynamic failure. We consider a pre-strained plate problem, the homogeneous case of which has been widely studied both experimentally and numerically. This setup is used to isolate the e ...

The thermal bridges constitute critical regions in building envelopes and they are created due to the interruption of the insulation layer. One of the many structural thermal bridges in building envelopes is created in balcony junctions because of the requ ...

Reinforced concrete slabs without shear reinforcement under concentrated loads near linear supports are typical cases of bridge deck slabs, transfer slabs or pile caps. Such members are often designed or assessed in shear/punching shear with code provision ...

Distributed plasticity beam elements are commonly used to evaluate limit state demands for performance based analysis of reinforced concrete (RC) structures. Strain limits are often preferred to drift limits since they directly relate to damage and are the ...

A large number of design approaches for structural concrete rely on the applicability of limit analysis. This is for instance the case of bending and shear design in members with transverse reinforcement, where it is assumed that plastic compression fields ...

Structural components used in civil engineering applications are often subjected to compressive loads. Unlike the tensile strength of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) materials, their compressive strength is resin-dominated, exhibiting lower values and more ...

The bond behavior of carbon fiber–reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets attached to concrete surface subject to mixed-mode I/II loading through single lap-shear tests is assessed. A 63 concrete prism specimens of 150 × 150 × 330 mm were prepared through externa ...

In this paper, the kinematical theorem of limit analysis is used to obtain the governing failure mechanisms and the corresponding failure load of reinforced concrete footings without transverse reinforcement. To that purpose, a Mohr-Coulomb yield criterion ...
