The accurate, robust and efficient transfer of the deformation gradient tensor between meshes of different resolution is crucial in cardiac electromechanics simulations. This paper presents a novel method that combines rescaled localized Radial Basis Funct ...

Many problems in robotics are fundamentally problems of geometry, which have led to an increased research effort in geometric methods for robotics in recent years. The results were algorithms using the various frameworks of screw theory, Lie algebra, and d ...

We consider the phase retrieval problem, in which the observer wishes to recover a n-dimensional real or complex signal X⋆ from the (possibly noisy) observation of |ΦX⋆|, in which Φ is a matrix of size m×n. We consider a \emph{high-dimensional} setting whe ...

This contribution focuses on the fabrication and characterization of microchannel plates made of hydrogenated amorphous silicon (AMCPs). Flexible fabrication processes and the semi-conducting nature of amorphous silicon could give these detectors the advan ...

We consider the phase retrieval problem of reconstructing a n -dimensional real or complex signal X ⋆ from m (possibly noisy) observations Y μ = | ∑ n i = 1 Φ μ i X ⋆ i / √ n | , for a large class of correlated real and complex random sensing matrices Φ , ...

Microchannel plates (MCPs) fabricated out of hydrogenated amorphous silicon offer a promising alternative to conventional lead glass ones. Progress in the fabrication process has allowed for detectors with higher aspect ratios, which significantly increase ...

There has been definite progress recently in proving the variational single-letter formula given by the heuristic replica method for various estimation problems. In particular, the replica formula for the mutual information in the case of noisy linear esti ...

Any symmetric matrix can be reduced to antitriangular form in finitely many steps by orthogonal similarity transformations. This form reveals the inertia of the matrix and has found applications in, e.g., model predictive control and constraint preconditio ...

Classically, stimuli are rendered unconscious by backward masking or binocular rivalry, where it is usually assumed that the mask or the stimulus in the contralateral eye suppress the target. Based, on the Ternus-Pikler display (http://lpsy.epfl.ch/researc ...

In this paper we present a new multiplication algorithm for residues modulo the Mersenne prime

. Using this approach, on an Intel Haswell Core i7-4770, constant-time variable-base scalar multiplication on NIST’s (and SECG’s) curve P-521 requires ...

We prove upper bounds for Hecke-Laplace eigenfunctions on certain Riemannian manifolds X of arithmetic type, uniformly in the eigenvalue and the volume of the manifold. The manifolds under consideration are d-fold products of 2-spheres or 3-spheres, realiz ...

Because of their low weight, cost and energy consumption, optic-flow sensors attract growing interest in robotics for tasks such as self-motion estimation or depth measurement. Most applications require a large number of these sensors, which involves a fai ...

We establish several results towards the two-variable main conjecture of Iwasawa theory for elliptic curves without complex multiplication over imaginary quadratic fields, namely (i) the existence of an appropriate p-adic L-function, building on works of H ...

The joint angles of multi-segment foot models have been primarily described using two mathematical methods: the joint coordinate system and the attitude vector. This study aimed to determine whether the angles obtained through these two descriptors are com ...

Dendronized polymers consist of an elastic backbone with a set of iterated branch structures (dendrimers) attached at every base point of the backbone. The conformations of such molecules depend on the elastic deformation of the backbone and the branches, ...

Let B be a positive quaternion algebra, and let O subset of B be an Eichler order. There is associated, in a natural way, a variety X = X(O) the connected components of which are indexed by the ideal classes of O and are isomorphic to spheres. This variety ...

Let K be a field with char(K) ≠ 2. The Witt-Grothendieck ring (K) and the Witt ring W (K) of K are both quotients of the group ring ℤ[𝓖(K)], where 𝓖(K) := K*/(K*)2 is the square class group of K. Since ℤ[𝓖(K)] is integra ...

Elliptic curve cryptosystems (ECCs) are utilised as an alternative to traditional public-key cryptosystems, and are more suitable for resource-limited environments because of smaller parameter size. In this study, the authors carry out a thorough investiga ...

The conditional indirect utility of many random utility maximization (RUM) discrete choice models is specified as a sum of an index V depending on observables and an independent random term. In general, the universe of RUM consistent models is much larger, ...

In this paper we present a reconfigurable device which significantly improves the execution time of the most computational intensive functions of three of the most widely used face recognition algorithms; those tasks multiply very large dense matrices. The ...
