Cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED) studies the interaction between atoms and a single electromagnetic mode. When the atoms form a degenerate quantum gas, the resulting lightâ matter interaction reflects the underlying quantum statistics of the particles. Recently, degenerate Fermi gases have been coupled to optical cavities, enabling the exploration of strongly correlated fermionic systems with interactions mediated by cavity photons. Remarkably, when disorder is introduced into such systems, the resulti

• Duplex Fe–Mn–Si SMAs were designed by adjusting Si and Cr contents, yielding controlled austenite–ferrite phase fractions. • Duplex microstructures significantly increased yield strength while maintaining comparable recovery stresses to the single-phase alloy. • Higher Cr contents improved corrosion resistance in chloride-containing environments. • Results establish composition–microstructure guidelines for strengthening Fe–Mn–Si SMAs without degrading functional performance. In this study, novel FeMnSi-b

The frustrated magnet Bi2Fe4O9 has been reported to exhibit complex spin dynamics coexisting with conventional spin wave excitations. The magnetic Fe3+ (S = 5/2) ions are arranged into a distorted two-dimensional Cairo pentagonal lattice with weak couplings between the layers, developing long-ranged noncollinear antiferromagnetic order below 245 K. In order to enable studies and modeling of the complex dynamics close to TN, we have reexamined the magnetic excitations across the complete energy scale (0 < h

The invention relates to a photonic component for setting non-volatile operational states, comprising:- at least one light-guiding structure (3) formed in a silicon layer of a silicon-on-insulator substrate (2);- at least one switching element (4) formed by an optical phase change material (8) and a heating structure (7) underneath thereof, wherein the at least one switching element (4) is laterally neighbored to the at least one light-guiding structure (3) so as to provide an evanescent coupling between th

This thesis investigates the anomalous dynamics observed in a Rydberg atom experiment in the broadest sense: a strongly interacting spin chain, without integrability or disorder, exhibits coherent many-body revivals ensuing only from specific initial states. This non-thermal behavior is attributed to the presence of quantum many-body scars (QMBS), a novel class of ergodicity breaking phenomena. Unlike other non-thermalizing systems such as integrable models and many-body localization, the mechanism of ergod

Although fluids are pervasive among tectonic faults, thermo-hydro-mechanical couplings during earthquake slip remain unclear. In particular, fluid induced seismicity is today a subject of major interest for the geo-energy community. We report full dynamic records of stick-slip events, performed on saw cut Westerly Granite samples loaded under triaxial conditions (stresses σ1> σ2= σ3) at pressures representative of the upper continental crust (σ3~ 45-95 MPa) Three fluid pressure conditions were tested, dry,

The electronic structure of the optimally hole-doped pnictide compound Ba0:6K0:4Fe2As2 was obtained and studied by angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). The light polarization dependence of the bands is explained by the selection rules contained in the photoemission transition matrix elements, and gives novel information on the possible orbital character of the bands. The Fermi surface geometry also shows important variations with light polarization. An attempt is made to analyze its more compl

This paper presents numerical simulations of annular laminar film condensation heat transfer in micro-channels of different internal shapes. The model, which is based on a finite volume formulation of the Navier-Stokes and energy equations for the liquid phase only, importantly accounts for the effects of axial and peripheral wall conduction and non-uniform heat flux not included in other models so far in the literature. The contributions of the surface tension, axial shear stresses and gravitational forces

We introduce a minimal model describing the physics of classical two-dimensional (2D) frustrated Heisenberg systems, where spins order in a nonplanar way at T=0. This model, consisting of coupled trihedra (or Ising-RP3 model), encompasses Ising (chiral) degrees of freedom, spin-wave excitations, and Z2 vortices. Extensive Monte Carlo simulations show that the T=0 chiral order disappears at finite temperature in a continuous phase transition in the 2D Ising universality class, despite misleading intermediate

Systems with a ferroelectric to paraelectric transition in the vicinity of room temperature are useful for devices. Adjusting the ferroelectric transition temperature (T-c) is traditionally accomplished by chemical substitution - as in BaxSr1-xTiO3, the material widely investigated for microwave devices in which the dielectric constant (epsilon(r)) at GHz frequencies is tuned by applying a quasi-static electric field(1,2). Heterogeneity associated with chemical substitution in such films, however, can broad

Urotropin (U) and azelaic acid (AA) form 1:1 co-crystals (UA) that give rise to a rather complex diffraction pattern, the main features of which are diffuse rods and bands in addition to the Bragg reflections. UA is characterized by solvent inclusions, parasite phases, and high vacancy and dislocation densities. These defects compounded with the pronounced tendency of U to escape from the crystal edifice lead to at least seven exotic phase transitions (many of which barely manifest themselves in a different

The reactivity of phenolic compounds can be drastically affected by the electronic nature of substituents and by their positions in the aromatic ring. In this work, structure effect on the photoreactivity via TiO2 catalysis is studied using several substituted phenols in order to cover a wide variety of electronic effects, ranging from strong electron-donating (activating) to strong electron-withdrawing (deactivating) groups: ---OH, ---OCH3, ---OCH2CH2CH3, ---COOH, ---COH, ---COCH3, ---NO2, ---SO3H, ---CN,

In this work, new spectroscopic techniques have been developed to measure electric dipole moments of highly excited rovibrational states of small polyatomic molecules in the gas phase. These techniques make use of lasers arid of microwave synthesizers. They enable one to measure the change on a molecular system caused by applying an external electric field, which is called Stark effect and from this, extract the dipole moment. The first technique, called microwave Stark spectroscopy, makes use of microwave-

High-resolution angle-resolved photoemission data show that a metal-insulator Mott transition occurs at the surface of the quasi-two-dimensional compound 1T-TaSe2. The transition is driven by the narrowing of the Ta 5d band induced by a temperature-dependent modulation of the atomic positions. A dynamical mean-field theory calculation of the spectral function of the half-filled Hubbard model captures the main qualitative feature of the data, namely, the rapid transfer of spectral weight from the observed qu

The structural buildup during reticulation of thermoset systems containing reactive modifiers can strongly influence the final properties of such blends. This was studied by considering the rheological behavior during cure of an epoxy/amine thermoset system blended with reactive dendritic hyperbranched polymers (HBPs). Depending on the chemical structure of the HBP used in the blend, a phase separation could be observed. The onset and offset of the phase separation process could be detected by observing the

The influence of cure temperature, composition and chemical structure on the morphology resulting from chemically induced phase separation has been investigated for different epoxy functionalized dendritic hyperbranched polymers blended with diglycydil bisphenol A and an aliphatic diamine. The cure temperature window chosen highlighted the influence of both the kinetics of phase separation and the thermodynamics of mixing on the final morphology. In relatively immiscible blends and at low cure temperatures,

In this study, chaotic wandering phenomenon observed in simple coupled chaotic circuits is modeled by Markov chains. As coupling parameter increases, the solution of the coupled chaotic circuits starts to wander chaotically over 6 different phase states which are stable for smaller value of the parameter. The wandering is modeled by a first order and sedond order Markov chains with the 6 states plus 3 intermediate states. Stationary probability function, expected sojourn time and probability density of sojo

Disorder has a strong influence on the spectral properties of the Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x high-T-c superconductor, both in the normal and in the superconducting state. High-resolution photoemission reveals a progressive quasiparticle suppression with increasing disorder in electron-irradiated optimally doped single crystals. The spectral Line shapes of the disordered samples show striking analogies with those of underdoped samples specifically the widely discussed pseudogap at the chemical potential. Disorder provi

We analyzed photoemission data for several doping levels of the Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x compounds, ranging from overdoped to underdoped. We show that the high frequency part of the spectra near (0,pi) can be described by Fermi liquid theory in the overdoped regime, but exhibits a non-Fermi liquid behavior in the underdoped regime. We further demonstrate that this behavior fits reasonably well to a 1/root omega behavior suggested for systems with strong spin fluctuations. [S0163-1829(98)50338-4].

The reflectivity of TmS single crystals has been measured between 3 meV and 12 eV at room temperature and at 6 K, Besides 3p(6)-5d interband transitions a plasma edge due to free carriers is observed. In the middle infrared (near 50 meV) two sharp lines are found which are interpreted as transitions from the Fermi level into empty crystal field split 4f(1 3) states. A Bremsstrahlen isochromat spectroscopy (BIS) measurement supports the assumption that the empty 4f(1 3) state is close to the Fermi energy. (C
