Organometallic control over the regiospecificity of functionalization reactions: 1,2,3-trifluorobenzene and bromo derivatives thereof as substrates

Abstract

In a case study, 1,2,3-trifluorobenzene was functionalized at each of the two vacant positions [producing the benzoic acids HO2CC6H2F3-2,3,4 F(I) and HO2CC6H2F3-3,4,5 (I)] and, in addn., bromine was introduced into all available positions of I and II. The required regioflexibility was achieved by applying novel organometallic recipes such as deprotonation-triggered halogen migrations and site-discriminating competitive halogen-metal permutations. Organic reaction

Organic reactions are chemical reactions involving organic compounds. The basic organic chemistry reaction types are addition reactions, elimination reactions, substitution reactions, pericyclic reactions, rearrangement reactions, photochemical reactions and redox reactions. In organic synthesis, organic reactions are used in the construction of new organic molecules. The production of many man-made chemicals such as drugs, plastics, food additives, fabrics depend on organic reactions.

Functional group

In organic chemistry, a functional group is a substituent or moiety in a molecule that causes the molecule's characteristic chemical reactions. The same functional group will undergo the same or similar chemical reactions regardless of the rest of the molecule's composition. This enables systematic prediction of chemical reactions and behavior of chemical compounds and the design of chemical synthesis. The reactivity of a functional group can be modified by other functional groups nearby.

Diethyl ether

Diethyl ether, or simply ether, is an organic compound in the ether class with the formula or , sometimes abbreviated as . It is a colourless, highly volatile, sweet-smelling ("ethereal odour"), extremely flammable liquid. It is commonly used as a solvent in laboratories and as a starting fluid for some engines. It was formerly used as a general anesthetic, until non-flammable drugs were developed, such as halothane. It has been used as a recreational drug to cause intoxication.
