Design guidelines for CMOS current steering logic

Abstract

Closed-form expressions for static and dynamic parameters have been derived for the Current Steering Logic (CSL) inverter. Measurements and simulation results that validate these expressions are presented for a 2.5V power supply, Design guidelines are given for the application of CSL gates in low voltage, low power mixed analog/digital circuits.

Emitter-coupled logic

In electronics, emitter-coupled logic (ECL) is a high-speed integrated circuit bipolar transistor logic family. ECL uses an overdriven bipolar junction transistor (BJT) differential amplifier with single-ended input and limited emitter current to avoid the saturated (fully on) region of operation and its slow turn-off behavior. As the current is steered between two legs of an emitter-coupled pair, ECL is sometimes called current-steering logic (CSL), current-mode logic (CML) or current-switch emitter-follower (CSEF) logic.

Expression (mathematics)

Power supply

As a result, power supplies are sometimes referred to as electric power converters. Some power supplies are separate standalone pieces of equipment, while others are built into the load appliances that they power. Examples of the latter include power supplies found in desktop computers and consumer electronics devices.
