The concept of a multi-source inverter (MSI) based on NPC topology was recently introduced for hybrid-electric powertrains to connect several dc sources to the traction load in a single conversion stage without magnetics. This work proposes a new modulatio ...

Dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs) have extremely advantageous characteristics such as lightness, compactness, flexibility, and large displacements. However, in order to operate, they can require voltages in the order of several thousands of volts. Thus ...

Voltage and frequency control in an islanded ac microgrid (ImG) amounts to stabilizing an a priori unknown ImG equilibrium induced by loads and changes in topology. This article puts forth a unified control framework, which, while guaranteeing such stabili ...

DC power supply systems utilising voltage source converters offer several advantages compared with their counterparts in marine low-voltage DC power distribution networks. In case of a two-level voltage source converter fed by a synchronous generator which ...

The emergence of wide bandgap power devices has brought the attention back to the flying capacitor (FC) multilevel inverters with a large number of stages, in an effort to increase the power density by minimizing the passive components. The main challenge ...

To realize spin wave logic gates, programmable phase inverters are essential. We image using phase-resolved Brillouin light scattering microscopy propagating spin waves in a one-dimensional magnonic crystal consisting of dipolarly coupled magnetic nanostri ...

In this paper, a module-level photovoltaic (PV) architecture in parallel configuration is introduced for maximum power extraction, under partial shading (PS) conditions. For the first time, a non-regulated switched capacitor (SC) nX converter is a used at ...

Energy balance in a power system must be maintained at all times, regardless of the variations in generation and consumption. Large Pumped Hydro Storage Plants (PHSPs) are introduced to the power system to accumulate the excess of energy during the low dem ...

In this paper, we present an exact (i.e. non-approximated) and linear measurement model for hybrid AC/DC micro-grids for recursive state estimation (SE). More specifically, an exact linear model of a voltage source converter (VSC) is proposed. It relies on ...

Recently, IGCTs have shown a great potential for the soft-switching dc transformer applications based on LLC resonant converter. The zero-voltage switching that is present in this converter topology enables an operation of IGCTs without clamping circuit an ...

In recent years, DC grids have gained momentum due to the advantages they display over their AC counterparts. For instance, high voltage DC grids have been established as the most prominent solution in the underwater power transmission or interconnection o ...

The latest developments in dc transformer technology are enabling larger and more complex dc power distribution systems. However, the literature is scarce regarding the investigation and quantification of its impact on the dc grid. Therefore, this paper an ...

In the available literature, including reference books on the topic, the spectral analysis of voltage waveforms obtained through the use of pulse-width modulation relies on the assumption of an ideally flat voltage across the DC link of a considered switch ...

Heart failure is a cardiovascular disease affecting between 1 and 2% of the population of developed countries alone - more than 10 million people - with this number bound to increase due to the ageing of the population. This condition starts to develop its ...
