Abstract

This report summarizes the Workshop “From Cooperative Neighborhoods to Transition Governance”, held at EPFL on 02.06.2026, 09:30-11:30, and organized by Matthieu Brilland, Nils Manni, and Sascha Nick. The objective of this workshop was to discuss and critically assess this model with stakeholders from the housing sector in order to identify its strengths, weaknesses, and potential areas for improvement. It also sought to explore the conditions required for its broader diﬀusion, by identifying the main barriers and enabling factors associated with its implementation.

Identifier

An identifier is a name that identifies (that is, labels the identity of) either a unique object or a unique class of objects, where the "object" or class may be an idea, physical countable object (or class thereof), or physical noncountable substance (or class thereof). The abbreviation Id often refers to identity, identification (the process of identifying), or an identifier (that is, an instance of identification). An identifier may be a word, number, letter, symbol, or any combination of those.

Unique identifier

A unique identifier (UID) is an identifier that is guaranteed to be unique among all identifiers used for those objects and for a specific purpose. The concept was formalized early in the development of computer science and information systems. In general, it was associated with an atomic data type. In relational databases, certain attributes of an entity that serve as unique identifiers are called primary keys. In mathematics, set theory uses the concept of element indices as unique identifiers.

Total order

In mathematics, a total order or linear order is a partial order in which any two elements are comparable. That is, a total order is a binary relation on some set , which satisfies the following for all and in : (reflexive). If and then (transitive). If and then (antisymmetric). or (strongly connected, formerly called total). Reflexivity (1.) already follows from connectedness (4.), but is required explicitly by many authors nevertheless, to indicate the kinship to partial orders.
