Abstract

Synthesis of the tricoordinated alanyl-contg. iron complex [(tmp)2Al-Fe(Cp)(CO)2] (1) (tmp = 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidino) has been achieved in a straightforward salt elimination reaction of (tmp)2AlBr with Na[(Cp)Fe(CO)2]. 1 Crystallizes in the triclinic space group P.hivin.1 (a = 8.347(4) .ANG., b = 10.044(5) .ANG., c = 15.087(8) .ANG., a = 94.01(1) Deg, b = 91.18(1) Deg, g = 102.50(1) Deg) and is an unassocd. monomer with an Al-Fe bond length of 2.450(1) .ANG.. Iron supplement

Iron supplements, also known as iron salts and iron pills, are a number of iron formulations used to treat and prevent iron deficiency including iron deficiency anemia. For prevention they are only recommended in those with poor absorption, heavy menstrual periods, pregnancy, hemodialysis, or a diet low in iron. Prevention may also be used in low birth weight babies. They are taken by mouth, injection into a vein, or injection into a muscle. While benefits may be seen in days, up to two months may be required until iron levels return to normal.

Iron

Iron is a chemical element with the symbol Fe () and atomic number 26. It is a metal that belongs to the first transition series and group 8 of the periodic table. It is, by mass, the most common element on Earth, just ahead of oxygen (32.1% and 30.1%, respectively), forming much of Earth's outer and inner core. It is the fourth most common element in the Earth's crust, being mainly deposited by meteorites in its metallic state, with its ores also being found there.

Human iron metabolism

Human iron metabolism is the set of chemical reactions that maintain human homeostasis of iron at the systemic and cellular level. Iron is both necessary to the body and potentially toxic. Controlling iron levels in the body is a critically important part of many aspects of human health and disease. Hematologists have been especially interested in systemic iron metabolism, because iron is essential for red blood cells, where most of the human body's iron is contained.
