Abstract

This document specifies a process for collecting a new corpus of meetings in the IDIAP Smart Meeting Room. This document is a working draft that is expected to be updated and augmented throughout the data collection process. This follows from an earlier data collection effort that resulted in a corpus of 60 scripted meetings (30 train, 30 test), each of 5 minutes duration (now available at \textsf{mmm.idiap.ch}). The current data collection effort aims to address some of the limitations of the previous corpus, as well as to cater for a richer variety of research tasks.

Data mining

Data mining is the process of extracting and discovering patterns in large data sets involving methods at the intersection of machine learning, statistics, and database systems. Data mining is an interdisciplinary subfield of computer science and statistics with an overall goal of extracting information (with intelligent methods) from a data set and transforming the information into a comprehensible structure for further use. Data collection

Data collection or data gathering is the process of gathering and measuring information on targeted variables in an established system, which then enables one to answer relevant questions and evaluate outcomes. Data collection is a research component in all study fields, including physical and social sciences, humanities, and business. While methods vary by discipline, the emphasis on ensuring accurate and honest collection remains the same.

Data model

A data model is an abstract model that organizes elements of data and standardizes how they relate to one another and to the properties of real-world entities. For instance, a data model may specify that the data element representing a car be composed of a number of other elements which, in turn, represent the color and size of the car and define its owner. The corresponding professional activity is called generally data modeling or, more specifically, database design.
