Our HERUS Jour Fixe seminars provide a dedicated platform for our team to exchange insights on research progress, ongoing projects, and other relevant topics. These sessions foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing within the group, welcoming guest speakers who present their work, sparking discussions and potential synergies for future projects.
In this seminar, Martijn Kuller, researcher at Utrecht University, discussed about the ways in which we could make blue-green infrastructure work in our modern cities. As cities face increasing challenges related to climate resilience, urban flooding, heat stress, and biodiversity loss, the integration of Blue-Green Infrastructure (BGI) is becoming a key strategy for sustainable urban planning. However, identifying optimal locations and solutions for BGI remains complex due to competing land uses, diverse stakeholder priorities, and spatial constraints. SSANTO is a Spatial Suitability Analysis and Optimization Tool designed to support urban planners and decision-makers in navigating these complexities. By integrating geospatial data with multicriteria decision analysis, SSANTO helps identify the most effective locations for BGI interventions, balancing environmental, social, and economic factors.
