The scintillating Fiber Tracker (FIT) is a tracking detector for space applications, composed of mats of plastic scintillator fibers and read out by custom silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) arrays. FIT can reconstruct the charge and direction of ionizing particles and enhance the angular resolution of gamma-ray detectors in the MeV to GeV regime. A custom, low-power (5 for single photoelectrons enables charge measurement from Hydrogen to Iron. After characterization of the 16-channel prototype, the 64-channel BETA64 has been completed, characterized, and integrated into a FIT prototype, enabling the measurement of ion tracks. This contribution presents the preliminary results of the BETA64 characterization and the FIT performance in terms of spatial resolution, particle identification, and trigger efficiency.
