Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) is a promising treatment for several cardiac conditions. The effectiveness of VNS can be enhanced by increasing the selectivity of fiber activation. However, the vagus nerve activation profile depends on intra-subject variability in nerve (micro-)anatomy and neural interface implantation characteristics. Closed-loop neurostimulation may help to improve selectivity, but the compound action potential (CAP) signal is difficult to interpret. In this study, we simulate simultaneous stimulation and recording of a porcine vagus nerve using a Vagal Regenerative Autonomic Interface (VRAI) interfascicular electrode and a cuff electrode, respectively, in order to facilitate interpretation of the CAP.
