Abstract

The kinetics and stereochem. of the Wittig reaction of Ph3P:CHR (R = H, Me) with R1C6H4CHO (R1 = H, p-MeO, p-Me, p-, m-Cl, p-cyano, p-F3C) to give RCH:CHC6H4R1 was investigated. The reaction progressed via intermediates Ph3P+CHRCH(O-)C6H4R1 and oxaphosphetanes I. [on SciFinder (R)]
