This training material is Module 3 of 5 of the training series by the EPFL Library RDM team. It focuses on data organization and storage solutions, including file and folder structuring, naming conventions, metadata and documentation practices, data cleaning, file versioning, backup strategies, and the distinction between active and cold data, storage, backup, archiving, publication, and long-term preservation. It also introduces common storage and related solutions used at EPFL, as well as practical good practices to improve data management, reduce risks of data loss, and support reuse and preservation of research data.
Designed for an instructor-led online or onsite workshop (~90 min, introductory level), it is published as an Open Educational Resource (OER). The package includes slides (.pptx and .odp with some speaker notes), a static .pdf export, a data dictionaries exercise (.xlsx and .ods), and a README.
