We report the discovery of a complete Einstein ring around the elliptical galaxy NGC 6505, at z = 0.042. This is the first strong gravitational lens discovered in Euclid and the first in an NGC object from any survey. The combination of the low redshift of ...

Context. The Euclid mission of the European Space Agency will deliver weak gravitational lensing and galaxy clustering surveys that can be used to constrain the standard cosmological model and extensions thereof. Aims. We present forecasts from the combina ...

Physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) have emerged as a powerful tool for solving differential equations by integrating physical laws into the learning process. This work leverages PINNs to simulate gravitational collapse, a critical phenomenon in astro ...

The faithful bidirectional quantum coherent conversion of microwave (5 GHz) and optical (193.5 THz) quantum states will become essential for future quantum networks. Due to their low transition frequency, qubit states are quickly destroyed at room temperat ...

We study how light scalar fields can change the stellar landscape by triggering a new phase of nuclear matter. Scalars coupled to nucleons can develop a non-trivial expectation value at finite baryon density. This sourcing of a scalar reduces the nucleon m ...

Optical-domain transient grating (TG) spectroscopy is the ideal tool to investigate transport phenomena in gases, liquids and solids, but it is limited to typically micron-size grating periods. Extreme-Ultraviolet TG has represented a major leap forward to ...

Using vertex-corrected quasiparticle self-consistent GW schemes, we address the electronic structure of two manganese dioxide polymorphs, α-MnO2 and β-MnO2. In particular, we determine the fundamental band gaps, macroscopic dielectric constants, magnetic m ...

Probing and manipulating the spatiotemporal dynamics of hot carriers in nanoscale metals is crucial to a plethora of applications ranging from nonlinear nanophotonics to single-molecule photochemistry. The direct investigation of these highly non-equilibri ...

Amyloid aggregation is associated with neurodegenerative disease and its modulation is a focus of drug development. We developed a chemical proteomics pipeline to probe the mechanism of action of anti-amyloidogenic compounds. Our approach identifies putati ...

The spatial distribution of dwarf galaxies around their host galaxies is a critical test for the standard model of cosmology because it probes the dynamics of dark matter halos and is independent of the internal baryonic processes of galaxies. Comoving pla ...

DEMO will have a limited diagnostic set for optimization of reactor performance, and limited diagnostic coverage due to challenging reactor conditions. This poses challenges for control, especially for detachment control which is planned to be performed wi ...

Context. The cosmological surveys that are planned for the current decade will provide us with unparalleled observations of the distribution of galaxies on cosmic scales, by means of which we can probe the underlying large-scale structure (LSS) of the Univ ...

Photonic integrated circuits are paving the way for novel on-chip functionalities with diverse applications in communication, computing, and beyond. The integration of on-chip light sources, especially single-mode lasers, is crucial for advancing those pho ...

The invention of the laser in the 1960s heralded a new era in photonics. Owing to both, academic and industrial research, photonics technologies have long become part of our everyday life. This PhD thesis explores two subfields of laser technologies: Frequ ...

Since the discovery of dissipative Kerr solitons in optical microresonators, significant progress has been made in the understanding of the underlying physical principles from the fundamental side and generation of broadband coherent optical Kerr frequency ...

We use James Webb Space Telescope Near-Infrared Camera Wide Field Slitless Spectroscopy (NIRCam WFSS) and the Near-Infrared spectrograph (NIRSpec) in the Cosmic Evolution Early Release survey to measure rest-frame optical emission-line ratios of 155 galaxi ...

We present the first comprehensive halo occupation distribution (HOD) analysis of the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) One-Percent Survey luminous red galaxy (LRG) and Quasi Stellar Object (QSO) samples. We constrain the HOD of each sample and t ...

Cluster-scale strong lensing is a powerful tool for exploring the properties of dark matter and constraining cosmological models. However, due to the complex parameter space, pixelized strong lens modelling in galaxy clusters is computationally expensive, ...

We demonstrate a figure-of-9 all-fiber thulium-doped laser (TDFL) that generates 560 fs long pulses at 1948 nm wavelength. In order to achieve self-starting passive mode-locking, we utilize an in-fiber Faraday rotator to induce a nonreciprocal phase shift. ...

We report the discovery of 15 exceptionally luminous 10 less than or similar to z less than or similar to 14 candidate galaxies discovered in the first 0.28 deg(2) of JWST/NIRCam imaging from the COSMOS-Web survey. These sources span rest-frame UV magnitud ...
