Jonathan SchneiderTeaching & PhD Courses Integrative structural biology for Life sciences BIO-643 Hands-on course in Biomolecular Integrative Structural Biology by SV experts in the field of X-ray crystallography, cryo-Electron Microscopy, Bio-NMR and protein modeling tools. No previous knowledge in Structural Biology or Bioinformatics is required.
Nicolas ThomäTeaching & PhD PhD Students David Domjan, Pierre Alexander Miranda Herrera, Laurin Tim Kanis, Alessandro Minafra, Pau Reolid Coll Courses Practical - Thomä Lab BIO-624 Expression and purification of recombinant proteins are key methods in our lab studying protein machines on a structural level and ways in which they can be reprogrammed by small molecules. In the course, we will express and purify proteins and biophysically characterise them. Trends in chemical biology and drug discovery
Elise Rose ErayTeaching & PhD Courses Practical - Antanasijevic Lab BIO-614 The students will learn: 1) how to handle viral protein antigens and antibody samples 2) how to assemble and purify immune complexes using liquid chromatography 3) how to image them on an electron microscope
Elisabeth MuellerTeaching & PhD Courses Multidisciplinary NPs characterization MSE-676 Four experienced scientists will guide students into the world of NPs characterization with different approaches, from laboratory characterization to X-ray/neutron scattering and electron microscopy. The main knowledge acquired will concern the overview of possible complementary technique.
Stefano Di LeoneTeaching & PhD Courses Automated analytical and synthetic chemistry 1 ChE-602 The course gives a general understanding of lab automation theory and practical knowledge. It is structured to integrate theoretical foundations, hands-on practical exercises (e.g., Arduino programming), and individualized project analysis.

Roberto RibattiTeaching & PhD Courses Specialisation semester PHYS-597 Students have the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a project contributing to specialize them in a physics field. The project can take place in an external or internal laboratory or in a research institute.
Sangwoo KimSangwoo Kim is set to join EPFL as a Tenure Track Assistant Professor in September 2023. Prior to his appointment at EPFL, he served as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He earned his graduate degree in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where his research delved into the relationships between statistics, geometry, and mechanical states in cellular matters. Currently, his research focus on fundamental understanding of biological and living systems, as well as the study of soft and active matter employing principles from mechanics and physics. His research interests encompass embryonic development, tissue morphogenesis, structure and mechanics of soft materials, inherent structure of amorphous materials, and non-equilibrium dynamics of active matter.
Júlio César De Souza TerraTeaching & PhD Courses Physical and chemical analyses of materials CH-410 This course will cover the fundamentals and practical aspects of advanced material characterization methods, with a focus on inorganic materials. Students will become familiar with spectroscopy and electron microscopy techniques.
Andrea CavalliTeaching & PhD PhD Students Alessia Ghidini Courses Drug Discovery CH-630 The course gives an overview of drug discovery.
