Sanggyu ChongSanggyu "Raymond" Chong obtained his BS, MS and PhD degrees in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), where he primarily focused on the computational design of metal-organic frameworks for applications ranging from gas storage to functional electronics. In March 2022, Sanggyu joined COSMO as a postdoctoral researcher, and he is currently investigating the robustness of local and/or component-wise predictions made by atomistic machine learning m
Jakov OrebTeaching & PhD Courses Stone masonry: Past, present, and future PENS-232 This course introduces students to the historical, structural, and environmental aspects of stone masonry. Emphasis is on understanding the role of stone masonry in architecture, basic structural behavior, and approaches to predict and assess the performance of stone masonry buildings.

Teaching & PhD PhD Students Niklas Frederik Schmitz, Anna Paulish, Bruno Ploumhans, Benedikt Menges Courses Error control in scientific modelling MATH-500 Errors are ubiquitous in computational science as neither models nor numerical techniques are perfect. With respect to eigenvalue problems motivated from materials science and atomistic modelling we discuss, implement and apply numerical techniques for e David Michael Volpe RuggieroTeaching & PhD PhD Students Ömer Faruk Behçet, Elias Merhi, Enrico Pinelli, Ahmad Abdulrahman Ahmad Majdouba, Muhammad Mahmood Mohi Ud Din Courses Reinforced concrete structures CIVIL-323 This course introduces the student to the behaviour and design of reinforced concrete structures. The student will learn the principles of analysis of reinforced concrete and how to design common concrete elements including columns, beams, and slabs. Federico AmatoI have an MSc in Engineering and a Ph.D. in Sustainable Development and Innovation Engineering. After a three-year Postdoc in Environmental Data Mining, in 2021 I joined the Swiss Data Science Centre, a joint venture between the polytechnical schools of Lausanne (EPFL) and Zurich (ETH) having as mission the acceleration of the digital transformation of the academic community and the industrial sector, putting to work Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning and facilitating the multidisciplinary exchange of data and knowledge.
Over the years I worked on the development of methodological tools to mine and model big spatiotemporal datasets. I extensively applied such methods to study the interaction between the spatial and temporal components of environmental and geographical phenomena, and their consequences in terms of spatial planning and urban geography. My academic activity has focused on the analysis of land-use dynamics and their relationship with climate, pollution, natural hazards, and other social/economic phenomena. I have deep competencies in applied statistics, machine learning, geocomputation, spatial statistics, urban modeling, and remote sensing. I am also an expert in European Project development and implementation.
Amir JafargholiTeaching & PhD PhD Students Senlu Zhou Courses Antennas EE-446 The students will first learn the fundamental principles governing antennas and get familiar with the main antenna types. In the second part, students will work in groups on an antenna design project. Through this, they will learn to use common simulation tools, and perform antenna measurements

Han obtained her master's degree in Geomatic from the Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich (ETHZ). Before joining IMOS Lab - EPFL, she focused on computer vision with a particular interest in domain adaptation & style adaptation. During her Ph.D. study, she will explore more in the field of domain adaptation with its appli
Sangwoo KimSangwoo Kim is set to join EPFL as a Tenure Track Assistant Professor in September 2023. Prior to his appointment at EPFL, he served as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He earned his graduate degree in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where his research delved into the relationships between statistics, geometry, and mechanical states in cellular matters. Currently, his research focus on fundamental understanding of biological and living systems, as well as the study of soft and active matter employing principles from mechanics and physics. His research interests encompass embryonic development, tissue morphogenesis, structure and mechanics of soft materials, inherent structure of amorphous materials, and non-equilibrium dynamics of active matter.
