Vladimir ManucharyanTeaching & PhD PhD Students Chulwoo Ahn, Marco Nicolas Mueller, Taketo Imaizumi, Andrea Lizzit, Andrea Duina, Nikola Dimitrov Dimitrov Courses Microwave engineering in physics QUANT-410 This course aims at teaching basic notions and tricks of microwave engineering to students with only an elementary knowledge of applied electromagnetism. Emphasis is made on topics that often arise in modern physics experiments, including quantum science and technology research. Quantum mechanics for non-
Vittorio ErbaTeaching & PhD Courses Statistical physics of computation PHYS-512 The students understand tools from the statistical physics of disordered systems, and apply them to study computational and statistical problems in graph theory, discrete optimisation, inference and machine learning.
Thomas Georges Pierre VidickTeaching & PhD PhD Students Itammar Steinberg, Aviv Taller Courses Formal Mathematics with Lean and AI CS-643 This graduate course provides an introduction to using Lean proof assistant to formalize mathematical definitions and theorems. We will have lectures on foundations (formal proofs, dependent type theory), learn about practice (proof tactics, use of AI, etc) and work on a formalization project. Introduction to quantum computation CS-308 The course introduces the para

Esteban Curras RiveraTeaching & PhD Courses Master project in Physics PHYS-599(b) The student realises a research project in a physics laboratory or in a company. Specialisation semester PHYS-597 Students have the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a project contributing to specialize them in a physics field. The project can take place in an external or internal laboratory or in a research institute.
Georgios MoschidisTeaching & PhD PhD Students Abraham Gabriel Dorsaz Courses Analysis IV (for EL, GM, MX) MATH-207(c) This course serves as an introduction to the theory of complex analysis, Fourier series and Fourier transforms, the Laplace transform, with applications to the theory of ordinary and partial differential equations. These tools play an integral role in most branches of science and engineering. Differential geometry I - curves and surfaces MATH-213 This course serves as an intr

Giuseppe CarleoGiuseppe Carleo is a computational quantum physicist, whose main focus is the development of advanced numerical algorithms tostudy challenging problems involving strongly interacting quantum systems. He is best known for the introduction of machine learning techniques to study both equilibrium and dynamical properties, based on a neural-network representations of quantum states, as well for the time-dependent variational Monte Carlo method. He earned a Ph.D. in Condensed Matter Theory from the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA) in Italy in 2011.He held postdoctoral positions at the Institut d’Optique in France and ETH Zurich in Switzerland, where he alsoserved as a lecturer in computational quantum physics. In 2018, he joined the Flatiron Institute in New York City in 2018 at the Center for Computational Quantum Physics (CCQ), working as a Research Scientist and project leader, and also leading the development of the open-source project NetKet.Since September 2020 he is an assistant professor at EPFL, in Switzerland, leading the Computational Quantum Science Laboratory (CQSL).
