Alessandro PauTeaching & PhD PhD Students Peizheng Zhang, Jean-Pierre Thomas Svantner, Cristina Venturini, Paul Véronique Guillaume Devianne Courses Control and Operation of Tokamaks PHYS-748 This course treats the main issues in operation and control of a tokamak. Control-oriented models are derived and controllers are designed using techniques from modern control theory. Operational limits are discussed as well as state-of-the-art research questions for future reactors.
Zepeng ZhangZepeng is a PhD student at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). He works in the Intelligent Maintenance and Operations Systems (IMOS) Lab under the supervision of Prof. Olga Fink. Previously, He received his master’s degree at ShanghaiTech University and B.Eng. degree from Wuhan University (WHU). During his studies, he have visited Télécom Paris, Institut Polytechnique de Paris (IP Paris), Peking University (PKU), and City University of HongKong (CityU) as a research intern. Smart Footwear for Diabetic Foot Care and Ulcer PreventionEvery 20 seconds, a person with diabetes has to face an amputation somewhere in the world. The main risk factor is high plantar pressure combined with foot nephropat
Nicolas Henri Bernard FlammarionNicolas Flammarion is a tenure-track assistant professor in computer science at EPFL. Prior to that, he was a postdoctoral fellow at UC Berkeley, hosted by Michael I. Jordan. He received his PhD in 2017 from Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris, where he was advised by Alexandre d’Aspremont and Francis Bach. In 2018 he received the prize of the Fondation Mathematique Jacques Hadamard for the best PhD thesis in the field of optimization. His research focuses primarily on learning problems at the interface of machine learning, statistics and optimization.
Emma Elizabeth TolleyI studied the universe at the smallest scales at the Large Hadron Collider, now we're getting ready to study it at the largest scales with the Square Kilometer Array. My research focuses on developing high-performance computing and new data science techniques to image and analyse the radio sky.
