Caroline KarmannCaroline Karmann is a PostDoctoral Researcher at the Laboratory of Integrated Performance in Design (LIPID) in the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne (EPFL). Caroline is interested in architecture and daylight in spaces, and in how our built environments affect our well-being. Her current research lies in the gap between visual comfort and visual interests based on the subjective and behavioral responses of occupants.
Caroline holds PhD in Building Science in Architecture from UC Berkeley and a dual Master’s degree in Architecture and Energy Engineering from INSA Strasbourg. Her doctoral project was devoted to indoor environmental quality in buildings using radiant conditioning systems. She conducted full-scale laboratory experiments and fields studies in 20 buildings. Her work was presented in multiple conferences including the ASHRAE conference, Windsor and PLEA, where she won Best Paper Award in 2018.
Caroline has five years of professional experience in the field of climate responsive building design. She worked as a consultant for daylight and energy at Transsolar (Stuttgart), where she specialized in building performance simulation, in particular daylighting simulation. Following her PhD, she worked for one year at Arup (London), where she conducted research on city resilience, and supported research activities through workshop facilitation and strategic planning.
Yatao PengYatao Peng received the Ph.D. degree in electronics engineering at 2015 from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China, with a focus on the multi-band/wideband RF front-ended circuits in wireless communication station. From 2016 to 2017, he was a Post-Doctoral Researcher with the University of Macau, Macau, China, where he was involved in CMOS millimeter-wave integretaed circuit design. From 2017 to 2018, he was with the National University of Singapore, Singapore, where he served as a Researcher to develop CMOS phase-shifter modules for hybrid integrated flexible electronic systems.
He is currently a Scientist with the Advanced Quantum Architecture Laboratory, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Lausanne, Switzerland. His current research interests include CMOS cryogenic RF circuits for quantum computer application.

Ata Jedari GolparvarAn Electronics Engineer passionate about everything in-between wearable computing to embedded systems and circuit design. I am a Ph.D. candidate in Microsystems and Microelectronics program of Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, and working there as a researcher in Integrated Circuits Laboratory (IClab), in its Bio/CMOS Interfaces division, as well as an R&D engineer at Senbiosys focused more on analog IC design and investigation of a miniaturized, non-invasive, point-of-care device to in vivo monitor of transcutaneous glucose concentration.Previously, during my master's studies at Sabanci University, Istanbul, Turkey between 2017 and 2019, where I was a teaching and research assistant, I turned more toward device level by joining Micro/Nano Devices and Systems lab (SU-MEMS) and specialized in wearable/flexible electronics and their applications in point-of-care devices as well as semiconductor device fabrication. Prior to grad school, I spent almost two years working as an embedded system developer in Nanopardaz, a company dedicated to designing electronic control boards for household appliances, where my responsibly mainly included software development for various embedded systems and design of electronic circuits and multilayer PCBs. I obtained my bachelor's in electronics at Azad University of Tabriz, Iran between 2012 and 2016 with specializing mostly in embedded systems and system-level circuit design.
