Erbium-doped fibre lasers exhibit high coherence and low noise as required for fibre-optic sensing, gyroscopes, LiDAR and optical frequency metrology. Endowing erbium-based gain in photonic integrated circuits can provide a basis for miniaturizing low-nois ...

Recent advancements in ultra-low-loss silicon nitride (Si3N4)-based photonic integrated circuits have surpassed fiber lasers in coherence and frequency agility. However, high manufacturing costs of DFB and precise control requirements, as required for self ...

We experimentally observe a self-injection locking regime of the gain-switched laser to a high-Q optical microresonator. We reveal that the comb generated by the gain-switched laser experiences a dramatic reduction of comb-teeth linewidths in this regime. ...

Silicon Nitride (Si3N4) photonic integrated circuits (PICs) have emerged as core technology in a variety of applications ranging from LIDAR to quantum control and computing. However, the need for high-speed, low-voltage tuning and modulation has been a lon ...

We demonstrate novel approach for generation of optical combs in frequency shifting loop based on acousto-optic interaction. This approach provides comb multiplication with different line spacing and generation of dual-comb for spectroscopy applications. ( ...

We demonstrate an integrated Erbium-based tunable laser using wafer-scale fabrication and ion implantation of silicon nitride photonic integrated circuits. We achieve single-frequency lasing tunable from 1530 nm to 1621 nm covering nearly the entire optica ...

Examination of various issues related to the generation and application of optical frequency combs (OFCs) is an important branch of modern optoelectronics. Some of the proposed OFC generation methods apply acousto-optic (AO) devices. The AO devices are use ...

Chip-scale integration is a key enabler for the deployment of photonic technologies. Coherent laser ranging or FMCW LiDAR, a perception technology that benefits from instantaneous velocity and distance detection, eye-safe operation, long-range, and immunit ...

We demonstrate single-soliton Kerr-comb generators, exploiting photonic wire bonds to connect Si3N4 resonators and self-injection-locked InP pump lasers. The assembly is used to generate a 0.302 THz carrier for 160 Gbit/s wireless transmission over 55 m. ...

We demonstrate a compact soliton microcomb light source. The soliton is generated from a Kerr microresonator and amplified by an erbium-implanted gain section integrated on the same photonic chip. We achieved an output power of 7.9 mW at a compact device f ...
