We study the evolution of magnetic fields coupled with chiral fermion asymmetry in the framework of chiral magnetohydrodynamics with zero initial total chirality. The initial magnetic field has a turbulent spectrum peaking at a certain characteristic scale ...

An asymmetry in the number density of left- and right-handed fermions is known to give rise to a new term in the induction equation that can result in a dynamo instability. At high temperatures, when a chiral asymmetry can survive for long enough, this chi ...

Context. The infrared-radio correlation (IRRC) of star-forming galaxies can be used to estimate their star formation rate (SFR) based on the radio continuum luminosity at MHz-GHz frequencies. For its practical application in future deep radio surveys, it i ...

The chiral magnetic effect (CME) is a quantum relativistic effect that describes the appearance of an additional electric current along a magnetic field. It is caused by an asymmetry between the number densities of left- and right-handed fermions, which ca ...

It is well known that helical magnetic fields undergo a so-called inverse cascade by which their correlation length grows due to the conservation of magnetic helicity in classical ideal magnetohydro-dynamics (MHD). At high energies above approximately 10 M ...

We analyse observational signatures of magnetic fields for simulations of a Milky Way-like disc with supernova-driven interstellar turbulence and self-consistent chemical processes. In particular, we post-process two simulations data sets of the SILCC Proj ...

Using a set of cosmological hydro-dynamical simulations, we constrained the properties of primordial magnetic fields by studying their impact on the formation and evolution of dwarf galaxies. We performed a large set of simulations (8 dark matter only and ...

We analyse the observational signatures of galactic magnetic fields that are self-consistently generated in magnetohydrodynamic simulations of the interstellar medium through turbulence driven by supernova (SN) explosions and differential rotation. In part ...

We describe a novel method to compute the components of dynamo tensors from direct magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations. Our method relies upon an extension and generalization of the standard H & ouml;gbom CLEAN algorithm widely used in radio astronomy to ...

Context. The intracluster medium (ICM) is the low-density diffuse gas that fills the space between galaxies within galaxy clusters. It is primarily composed of magnetized plasma, which reaches virial temperatures of up to 10(8) K, probably due to mergers o ...

Small-scale dynamos play important roles in modern astrophysics, especially on galactic and extragalactic scales. Owing to dynamo action, purely hydrodynamic Kolmogorov turbulence hardly exists and is often replaced by hydromagnetic turbulence. Understandi ...

We study the dynamics of magnetic fields in chiral magnetohydrodynamics, which takes into account the effects of an additional electric current related to the chiral magnetic effect in high-energy plasmas. We perform direct numerical simulations, consideri ...

In plasmas composed of massless electrically charged fermions, chirality can be interchanged with magnetic helicity while preserving the total chirality through the quantum chiral anomaly. The decay of turbulent energy in plasmas such as those in the early ...

At high energies, the dynamics of a plasma with charged fermions can be described in terms of chiral magnetohydrodynamics. Using direct numerical simulations, we demonstrate that chiral magnetic waves (CMWs) can produce a chiral asymmetry μ5=μL-μR from a s ...

Aims. The true nature of primordial magnetic fields (PMFs) and their role in the formation of galaxies remains elusive. To shed light on these unknowns, we investigated their impact by varying two sets of properties: (i) accounting for the effect of PMFs o ...

Relic gravitational waves (GWs) can be produced by primordial magnetic fields. However, not much is known about the resulting GW amplitudes and their dependence on the details of the generation mechanism. Here we treat magnetic field generation through the ...

Over the past decade, several works have used the ratio between total (rest 8-1000 mu m) infrared and radio (rest 1.4 GHz) luminosity in star-forming galaxies (q(IR)), often referred to as the infrared-radio correlation (IRRC), to calibrate the radio emiss ...

In relativistic magnetized plasmas, asymmetry in the number densities of left-and right-handed fermions, i.e., a nonzero chiral chemical potential mu(5), leads to an electric current along the magnetic field. This causes a chiral dynamo instability for a u ...

Context. Radio observations have revealed magnetic fields in the intracluster medium (ICM) of galaxy clusters, and their energy density is nearly in equipartition with the turbulent kinetic energy. This suggests magnetic field amplification by dynamo proce ...

In the standard model of particle physics, the chiral anomaly can occur in relativistic plasmas and plays a role in the early Universe, protoneutron stars, heavy-ion collisions, and quantum materials. It gives rise to a magnetic instability if the number d ...
