The photovoltaics industry is adopting bifacial systems which offer improved energy harvesting compared to monofacial ones. This stems from the collection of light reflected by the surroundings on the rear side of the modules, leading to system-level gains ...

To improve the performance of solar photovoltaic devices one should mitigate three types of losses: optical, electrical and thermal. However, further reducing the optical and electrical losses in modern photovoltaic devices is becoming increasingly costly. ...

Multijunction cells may offer a cost-effective route to boost the efficiency of industrial photovoltaics. For any technology to be deployed in the field, its performance under actual operating conditions is extremely important. In this perspective, we eval ...

We discuss here optical losses in silicon heterojunction solar cells and strategies to minimize them. Optical losses originate from most non-crystalline-silicon layers involved in the solar cell. A breakdown for typical values is shown evidencing that supp ...

A full-scale pilot line for producing bifacial solar modules based on silicon heterojunction technology was set up as part of the European H2020 AMPERE project. In this study, the measurements from two outdoor test benches were used to evaluate the perform ...

The power produced by a photovoltaic module is not simply the sum of the powers of its constituents cells. The difference stems from a number of so-called “cell-to-module” (CTM) gain or loss mechanisms. These are getting more and more attention as improvem ...
