Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) have developed to a mature technology, able to achieve electrical efficiencies beyond 60%. This makes them particularly suitable for off-grid applications, where SOFCs can supply both electricity and heat at high efficiency. C ...

In recent years, the International Maritime Organization agreed on aiming to reduce shipping’s greenhouse gas emissions by 50% with respect to 2009 levels. Meanwhile, cruise ship tourism is growing at a fast pace, making the challenge of achieving this goa ...

Electric buses are particularly suitable for city and suburban routes due to zero local exhaust and noise emissions. The operation schedule interval defines the charging power, bus fleet size and total cost of ownership of a bus. We propose a novel cost-be ...

The growing trend of the cruise ship industry, together with increasing concerns over its impact on the environment, makes these ships a much relevant target for the efforts toward increasing ship energy efficiency, thus ultimately reducing fuel consumptio ...

Transportation electrification is increasing and recently-more focus has been directed on heavy vehicles and especially on city buses. Battery electric buses are inherently more energy efficient than diesel buses and the efficiency can be further increased ...

The increased concerns about the effect of human activities on the climate have pushed natural gas among the most obvious solutions for the transition to a low-carbon economy. The growing importance and volumes of liquefied natural gas for transportation o ...

Reducing global emissions of greenhouse gases while promoting social and economicdevelopment is one of the toughest challenges ever faced in the history of human kind. This challenge is affecting all sectors of human activities: process plants, land-basedtr ...

The dramatic evidence of climate change is making the transition to more renewable energy systems an urgent global priority. As energy planners normally look 20-50 years ahead, it is crucial to consider the key uncertainties stemming from inaccurate foreca ...

In the context of increasing concern for anthropogenic CO2 emissions, the residential building sector still represents a major contributor to energy demand. The integration of renewable energy sources, and particularly of photovoltaic (PV) panels, is becom ...

The expected increase of the penetration of distributed renewable energy technologies into the electricity grid is expected to lead to major challenges. As a main stakeholder, authorities often lack the appropriate tools to frame and encourage the transiti ...

Technology transfer processes enable universities to increase their positive impact on society by pursuing their entrepreneurial mission in several ways. By analyzing quantitative and qualitative data collected in a longitudinal dataset of 60 U.S. universi ...
