I began my doctoral studies in 2023, focusing on fundamental theoretical physics. My research interests include quantum gravity, cosmology, and quantum field theory. Currently, I am investigating the interactions of quantum fields and gravitational fluctuations during the inflationary epoch of the early universe. Additionally, I am exploring the role of wormholes in quantum gravity and their impact on entropy, especially in de Sitter spacetime.

E Giuseppe CarleoGiuseppe Carleo is a computational quantum physicist, whose main focus is the development of advanced numerical algorithms tostudy challenging problems involving strongly interacting quantum systems. He is best known for the introduction of machine learning techniques to study both equilibrium and dynamical properties, based on a neural-network representations of quantum states, as well for the time-dependent variational Monte Carlo method. He earned a Ph.D. in Condensed Matter Theory from the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA) in Italy in 2011.He held postdoctoral positions at the Institut d’Optique in France and ETH Zurich in Switzerland, where he alsoserved as a lecturer in computational quantum physics. In 2018, he joined the Flatiron Institute in New York City in 2018 at the Center for Computational Quantum Physics (CCQ), working as a Research Scientist and project leader, and also leading the development of the open-source project NetKet.Since September 2020 he is an assistant professor at EPFL, in Switzerland, leading the Computational Quantum Science Laboratory (CQSL).
Michaela HirschmannTeaching & PhD PhD Students Patrick Hirling, Jonathan Petersson, Lucie Scharré Courses Astrophysics III : galaxy formation and evolution PHYS-465 Galaxy formation & evolution is about studying how galaxies in our Universe come into existence, how they evolve and what shapes their properties. This course describes the observational facts of galaxies and the various processes of galaxy evolution as seen from theoretical/numerical models. General physics : thermodynamics (English) P
John Martin KolinskiDr. Kolinski studied Applied Mathematics (Sc.M.) and Applied Physics (Ph.D.) at Harvard University, completing a PhD under the supervision of L. Mahadevan and Shmuel Rubinstein on the role of air in droplet impact. John did his post-doc at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel supported by the Fulbright post-doctoral fellowship. At HUJI, he worked on interfacial instabilities in soft matter in the labs of Eran Sharon and Jay Fineberg. John continues his research into interfacial mechanics at EPFL in EMSI, his newly founded laboratory for the study of Engineering Mechanics of Soft Interfaces.
Emma Elizabeth TolleyI studied the universe at the smallest scales at the Large Hadron Collider, now we're getting ready to study it at the largest scales with the Square Kilometer Array. My research focuses on developing high-performance computing and new data science techniques to image and analyse the radio sky.
