Bruno Emanuel Ferreira De Sousa CorreiaThroughout my PhD and postdoctoral studies I was trained in world-renowned laboratories and institutions in the United States of America (University of Washington and The Scripps Research Institute). Very early in my scientific career I found out my fascination about protein structure and function. My PhD studies evolved in the direction of immunogen design and vaccine engineering which sparked my interest in the many needs and opportunities in vaccinology and translational research. My efforts resulted in an enlightening piece of work where for the first time, computationally designed immunogens elicited potent neutralizing antibodies. During my postdoctoral studies I joined a chemical biology laboratory at the Scripps Research Institute. In this stage I developed novel chemoproteomics methods for the identification of protein-small molecule interaction sites in complex proteomes. In March 2015, I joined the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) – Switzerland as a tenure track assistant professor. The focus of my research group is to develop computational tools for protein design with particular emphasis in applying these strategies to immunoengineering (e.g. vaccine and cancer immunotherapy). The activities in my laboratory focus on computational design methods development and experimental characterization of the designed proteins. Our laboratory has been awarded with 2 prestigious research grants from the European Research Council. Lastly, I have been awarded the prize for best teacher of Life sciences in 2019.
Paolo BenettinI was born in Padova, Italy, in 1986. After high school, I started the Environmental Engineering program at the University of Padova (Bachelor and Master), where I followed the 'soil protection' curriculum. During my Master studies I spent a semester as Erasmus student at Wageningen University (Wageningen, the Netherlands) to follow courses in Hydrology. After graduation, I decided to bring my education further and I started a Ph.D. at the civil and environmental engineering department at the University of Padova. My Ph.D. thesis focused on hydrologic transport and travel time distributions at the catchment scale. My contribution to the subject included both new theoretical formulations and extensive numerical applications to real catchments. During my Ph.D., I also spent 7 months as visiting research fellow at Virginia Tech University (Blacksburg, USA). Since I arrived at EPFL as post-doc in 2015, I started being involved in field and experimental activities, which allowed me to learn about practical experimental problems. In 2017 I had the opportunity to by hired by the ECHO laboratory as a permanent scientist, conducting research in the field of catchment hydrology.
Mathieu HursinCurrent work
I'm currently heavily involved in the nuclear data community and with technical work towards the improvement of the latest version of the European library (JEFF). I'm leading an OECD/NEA subgroup in that direction. I'm also leading a Euratom project towards the production of multi-physics experimental data suitable for the validation of high-fidelity, high-resolution simulation tools.
After a doctoral thesis on the high-fidelity modeling of control rod ejection in a pressurized water reactor at
Brice Tanguy Alphonse LecampionI am currently an assistant Professor and the head of the Geo-Energy Lab - Gaznat Chair on GeoEnergy at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland. Prior to joining EPFL, I have worked for Schlumberger in research and development from 2006 until May 2015 - serving in a variety of roles ranging from project manager to principal scientist in both Europe and the United States. I received my PhD in mechanics from Ecole Polytechnique, France in 2002 and worked as a research scientist in the hydraulic fracturing research group of CSIRO division of Petroleum resources (Melbourne, Australia) from 2003 to 2006. During my time in Schlumberger R&D, I have worked on problems related to the integrity of deep wells, large scale monitoring of reservoir deformation and more specifically on the stimulation of oil and gas wells by hydraulic fracturing. My current research interests cover hydraulic fracture mechanics, mechanics of porous media and dense suspensions flow.

I am a Postdoc with Prof. Daniel Kuhn from EPFL and Prof. Andreas Krause from ETH Zurich. Prior to that, I got my PhD in Operations Research from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, advised by Prof. Xin Chen and Prof. Niao He. My research interest lies in data-driven decision-making with problems arising from optimization, operations research, and statistics. See Research for research directions and Publication for papers.
Anna Timonina-FarkasAnna Timonina-Farkas is a scientific researcher in the field of Operations Research and Operations Management at TOM EPFL. Her focus is on theory and data-driven solution methods in multi-stage optimization under model and decision-dependent uncertainties. Before joining EPFL, she served as a Research Scholar at the Risk, Policy and Vulnerability program at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (Vienna, Austria), developing optimal governmental strategies for natural disaster risk-managem
Yingzhao LianYingzhao graduated with a MSc in Mechanical Enginerring from EPFL in 2018. He specialized in optimization and learning theory. He jointly conducted his master’s thesis with the Automatic Control Lab, EPFL and ABB Corporate Research, Baden, where he investigated the problem of data-driven model based optimal control. In August 2018, he joined the Automatic Control Laboratory at EPFL as a PhD student under the supervision of Professor Colin Jones.
