The prediction of departure from nucleate boiling (DNB) has always been a crucial aspect of thermal-hydraulic codes for the analysis of Light Water Reactors. In this paper, GeN-Foam, a multi-physics code developed based on OpenFOAM, has been enhanced to in ...

Nuclear Thermal Propulsion systems are one of the technologies to unlock interplanetary travel in the solar system and there is currently an increasing demand for accurately simulating such systems. The present paper investigates the KIWI-B-4E reactor, the ...

The EPFL and the PSI have been developing in recent years a new fuel performance tool named OFFBEAT. The tool is based on the OpenFOAM finite-volume library and allows for 1.5-D, 2-D and 3-D fuel performance analyses, both for base irradiation and for tran ...

OFFBEAT is a 1D, 2D and 3D fuel behavior code under development at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI). In this paper, an incremental stress-strain solver with dynamic mesh update is presented and preli ...

The FMI is a standard that defines a container and an interface to exchange dynamic simulation models. It has been developed and refined by several actors over the past two decades. This coupling standard allows seamless integrations of independent objects ...

Mechanistic multi-scale modelling holds the potential to inform fuel performance codes by incorporating high-fidelity models, algorithms, parameters, and material properties. In this context, meso-scale codes emerge as valuable tools for developing detaile ...

A new 3D fuel behavior solver is currently under collaborative development at the Laboratory for Reactor Physics and Systems Behaviour of the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne and at the Paul Scherrer Institut. The long term objective is to enable a ...

The OpenFOAM Fuel BEhavior Analysis Tool OFFBEAT is a multi-dimensional fuel performance code under development at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), in Switzerland. The latest developments are orient ...
