In the context of discrete choice modeling, the extraction of potential behavioral insights from large datasets is often limited by the poor scalability of maximum likelihood estimation. This paper proposes a simple and fast dataset-reduction method that i ...

We introduce a probabilistic modeling approach for pedestrian speed density relationship. It is motivated by a high scatter in real data that precludes the use of traditional equilibrium relationships. To characterize the observed pattern, we relax the hom ...

In this paper we extend the Multiple Indicator Solution (MIS) so that it can also be used to account for endogeneity when there are interactions between observed and unobserved factors in the specification of the utility function. We develop the theoretica ...

Location-aware data collection technologies provide new insights about location choices. Only a few dynamic models of location choice exist in scientific literature. To our knowledge, none of them correct for serial correlation. In this paper, we model cho ...

We analyze individual travel discomfort-time tradeoffs in the Paris subway using stated choice experiments. The survey design allows to set up in a willingness-to-pay space to estimate the distributions of elasticities of values of travel time to crowd den ...

This article presents a microeconometric analysis of household car use in France. To characterize car use dependence, the myopic and rational addiction models are estimated using panel data drawn from the French "Car Fleet" survey. Significantly, the assum ...

Land Use and Transport Integrated models (LUTIs) are promising approaches for urban planning. There is large literature describing their technical architectures or using them in various scientific contexts. Yet little attention has been paid to expectation ...

We propose a probabilistic modeling approach to represent the speed-density relationship of pedestrian traffic. The approach is data-driven, and it is motivated by the presence of high scatter in the raw data that we have analyzed. We show the validity of ...

This paper focuses on the application of tractable route choice models and presents a set of methods for deriving relevant disaggregate and aggregate route choice indicators, namely link and route flows. Tractability is achieved at the disaggregate level b ...

In the field of choice modeling, the availability of ever-larger datasets has the potential to significantly expand our understanding of human behavior, but this prospect is limited by the poor scalability of discrete choice models (DCMs): as sample sizes ...

During the last 40 years, a large number of studies have analyzed car holding and use behavior. Most of these ignore the dynamics of household and driver needs that very likely drive such decisions. Our work builds up on a disaggregate (compensatory) appro ...
