The low-light performance of a CMOS image sensor (CIS) is one of the most important performance metrics in a camera, whether it is used in products for consumer electronics or in an image-acquisition system for machine vision or the Internet-of-Things (IoT ...

In this paper, we propose a physics-based compact model of the pinned photodiode (PPD) combined with the transfer gate. A set of analytical expressions is derived for the 2-D electrostatic profile, the PPD capacitance, and the charge transfer current. The ...

For a 4T pixel-based CMOS image sensors (CIS) readout chain, with column-level amplification and CDS, we show that the input-referred total noise in a standard 65 nm process can be reduced to 0.37 e-rms. Based on transient noise simulation using Eldo, the ...

In this article, the impact of the combination of the column-level gain and the correlated multiple sampling (CMS) on the noise of CMOS image sensor (CIS) readout chains is first analyzed. The theory is then validated experimentally with CIS readout chains ...

This paper proposes a hardware-oriented trinocular adaptive window size disparity estimation (T-AWDE) algorithm and the first real-time trinocular disparity estimation (DE) hardware that targets high-resolution images with high-quality disparity results. T ...

This work explores the combination of a downscaled technology with in-pixel source-follower (SF) optimization, a high column-level gain and an analog implementation of Correlated-Multiple-Sampling (CMS) for noise reduction of CIS readout chains. Transient ...

In this paper, an area-optimized polyphase digital down converter (DDC) architecture is introduced, where the mixers can be completely merged into the polyphase decimation filter under certain conditions. We also introduce an interface architecture, called ...

The current trend towards embedding more and more light sensors in portable and wearable devices is calling for higher integration and reuse of the sensor interface electronics. In many applications, the light needs to be generated locally, which becomes t ...

Optical flow calculation algorithms are hard to implement on hardware level in real-time due to their complexity and high computational load. In this work, we present a novel hierarchical block matching based optical flow algorithm. The algorithm estimates ...

The recent development of high quality free viewpoint synthesis algorithms and their implementations allows to realize glasses-free 3D perception. Although many algorithms are developed on this domain, the real-time hardware realization of a free viewpoint ...
