Laser-powder bed fusion (L-PBF) has gained significant research interest, not only for its profound advantage of producing near-net shape complex geometries of metallic parts, but also for the possibility of producing tailored microstructures. Here we expl ...

Laser metal additive manufacturing has the potential to revolutionize the production of complex geometries with high precision across various industrial applications. To optimize the reliability of the process, a detailed understanding of the melt pool dyn ...

Most industrial alloys contain a matrix phase and dispersed second-phase particles. Several thermomechanical processing (TMP) steps are usually needed to produce a final product, during which recrystallization and its related phenomena may take place. Seco ...

The significant computational expenses associated with simulating the Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) process often restrict the insights gained from modeling endeavors to specific combinations of process parameters, hindering broader conclusions. In this s ...

A FeCrCuMnNi high-entropy alloy was produced using vacuum induction melting, starting from high-purity raw materials. The microstructure and mechanical properties of the as-cast FeCrCuMnNi alloy were studied, considering x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning e ...

Here we present measurements of surface tension and viscosity of the bulk glass-forming alloy Pd43Cu27Ni10P20 performed during containerless processing under reduced gravity. We applied the oscillating drop method in an electromagnetic levitation facility ...

Variant selection during the A1→L10 transformation in a polycrystalline red gold alloy close to equiatomic Au-Cu composition has been extensively studied by Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD) in our previous work. The use of a mathematical description ...

Two new ferrito-martensitic oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) steels reinforced with (Y, Ti, O) nanoparticles were elaborated using a high-energy attritor. The milled powder was consolidated by hot extrusion at 1050 degrees C. The two types of ODS steels ...

Additive manufacturing is a promising and rapidly rising technology in metal processing. However, besides a number of key advantages the constitution of a part through a complex thermo-mechanical process implies also some severe issues with the potential o ...

In the recent years, laser powder bed fusion of aluminum alloys has attracted extensive attention due to their capacious application in the biomedical, aerospace, and other industrial sectors. This is due to the combined capabilities of the laser powder be ...

This work is focused on the evolution of the microstructure of Inconel 718 during multi-pass forging processes. During the forming process, the material is subjected to several physical phenomena such as work-hardening, recovery, recrystallization and grai ...

Laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) has emerged as an additive manufacturing technique that offers unprecedented design freedom. Besides being capable of producing complex and near net shape objects, L-PBF can impact tremendously the engineering materials comm ...

For the first time, a high-density amorphous and crack-free bulk metallic glass (BMG) based on a precious metal (PdCuNiP) was produced via additive manufacturing (AM). Laser powder-bed fusion (LPBF) was used for the fabrication of the samples, and led to a ...

Cladding of a Zr-based metallic glass (MG) on an aluminum substrate was conducted using a layer-wise laser additive manufacturing (AM) method, leading to relative densities higher than 99%. The thickness of the cladding was about 300 μm. The effect of lase ...

The additive manufacturing (AM) of the gamma' precipitation strengthened Ni-base superalloys still remains a challenge due to their susceptibility to micro-cracking. Post-processing, such as HIPing, has been shown to heal the micro-cracks but it remains de ...

One of the main challenges in the fabrication of bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) via laser-based additive manufacturing (AM) is undesirable crystal phase formation, which usually deteriorates the mechanical properties of the BMG fabricated parts. Understandin ...

The mechanical properties of Fe-Mn-Al-C steel are significantly enhanced after κ-carbide precipitation via aging; however, most aging treatments are energy demanding because they require relatively high temperatures and extended holding times. This researc ...

Laser powder bed fusion is an efficient technique for additive manufacturing of metallic materials. The quality of the material produced depends on the optimization of a large range of build parameters and the complex thermo-mechanical build process is pro ...

Mechanical and functional properties of Oxide Dispersion Strengthened (ODS) ferritic/martensitic steels are strongly related to their microstructures. Thus, numerical modeling of microstructure evolution during ODS forming is of prime importance. In this w ...

Laser based heat treatments have multiple applications for local tuning of microstructures. They are particularly relevant in the context of laser-based additive manufacturing (LAM), in order to relieve residual stresses or introduce equiaxed structures th ...
