Climate change imposes new constraints on tree survival, emphasising two key parameters: the vapour pressure deficit (VPD) and air temperature. Yet, no study has experimentally evaluated drought-induced tree mortality risk following acclimation to elevated ...

Microcomputed tomography (mu CT) is a nondestructive X-ray imaging method used in plant physiology to visualize in situ plant tissues that enables assessments of embolized xylem vessels. Whereas evidence for X-ray-induced cellular damage has been reported, ...

Tree net carbon (C) uptake may decrease under global warming, as higher temperatures constrain photosynthesis while simultaneously increasing respiration. Thermal acclimation might mitigate this negative effect, but its capacity to do so under concurrent s ...

Temperature (T) and vapor pressure deficit (VPD) are important drivers of plant hydraulic conductivity, growth, mortality, and ecosystem productivity, independently of soil water availability. Our goal was to disentangle the effects of T and VPD on plant h ...

Acclimation to High Vapor Pressure Deficit in Warmer Air Can Reduce Tree Vulnerability to Drought-Induced Mortality

In vivo X-ray microtomography locally affects stem radial growth with no immediate physiological impact

Prolonged warming and drought reduce canopy‐level net carbon uptake in beech and oak saplings despite photosynthetic and respiratory acclimation

Increasing temperature and vapor pressure deficit lead to hydraulic damages in the absence of soil drought
