Objective. Translational studies on motor control and neurological disorders require detailed monitoring of sensorimotor components of natural limb movements in relevant animal models. However, available experimental tools do not provide a sufficiently ric ...

Objective. We recently developed soft neural interfaces enabling the delivery of electrical and chemical stimulation to the spinal cord. These stimulations restored locomotion in animal models of paralysis. Soft interfaces can be placed either below or abo ...

Spinal cord injury (SCI) induces haemodynamic instability that threatens survival(1-3), impairs neurological recovery(4,5), increases the risk of cardiovascular disease(6,7), and reduces quality of life(8,9). Haemodynamic instability in this context is due ...

Stimulation of peripheral nerves has transiently restored lost sensation and has the potential to alleviate motor deficits. However, incomplete characterization of the long-term usability and bio-integration of intra-neural implants has restricted their us ...

Epidural electrical stimulation (EES) targeting the dorsal roots of lumbosacral segments restores walking in people with spinal cord injury (SCI). However, EES is delivered with multielectrode paddle leads that were originally designed to target the dorsal ...

The present disclosure refers to systems for electrical neurostimulation of a spinal cord of a subject in need of nervous system function support. In one example, a system comprises a signal processing device configured to receive signals from the subject ...

Electrical neuromodulation of lumbar segments improves motor control after spinal cord injury in animal models and humans. However, the physiological principles underlying the effect of this intervention remain poorly understood, which has limited the ther ...

Severe Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) alters the communication between supra-spinal centers and the sensorimotor networks coordinating limb movements, which are usually located below the injury. Epidural electrical stimulation of lumbar segments has shown the ab ...

Reliably interfacing a nerve with an electrode array is one of the approaches to restore motor and sensory functions after an injury to the peripheral nerve. Accomplishing this with current technologies is challenging as the electrode-neuron interface ofte ...

Gait recovery after neurological disorders requires remastering the interplay between body mechanics and gravitational forces. Despite the importance of gravity-dependent gait interactions and active participation for promoting this learning, these essenti ...

The mechanical mismatch between soft neural tissues and stiff neural implants hinders the long-term performance of implantable neuroprostheses. Here, we designed and fabricated soft neural implants with the shape and elasticity of dura mater, the protectiv ...

The present invention refers to a system for stimulation of the spinal cord for the rehabilitation of motor function in subjects with spinal cord injury or other motor disorders. Said system comprises a programmable implantable pulse generator (IPG), opera ...

The present invention relates to a system for planning and/or providing neuromodulation (10), especially neurostimulation, comprising: - first data input module (26) for stimulation related basic data, - a stimulation related basic data storage module (28) ...

Spinal cord injury disrupts the communication between the brain and the spinal circuits that orchestrate movement. To bypass the lesion, brain-computer interfaces(1-3) have directly linked cortical activity to electrical stimulation of muscles, and have th ...

The present invention relates to a system (10) for planning and/or providing neurostimulation for a patient, comprising: - a pathological spinal cord map storage module (48) for storing at least one pathological spinal cord map (49) describing the activati ...

Epidural electrical stimulation (EES) of the spinal cord and real-time processing of gait kinematics are powerful methods for the study of locomotion and the improvement of motor control after injury or in neurological disorders. Here, we describe equipmen ...

Methods and systems are provided for triggering electrical stimulation of a spinal cord during execution of a motor event. In one example, a method comprises monitoring motor cortex activity while execution of a desired motor movement is attempted during a ...

The present invention relates system for planning and/or providing neuromodulation (10), especially neurostimulation, comprising - a neurostimulator (24) comprising a least one electrode (22), - functional mapping module (38) configured and arranged such t ...

Long-term biointegration of man-made neural interfaces is influenced by the mechanical properties of the implant materials. Substantial experimental work currently aims at replacing conventional hard implant materials with soft alternatives that can favour ...
