In this study, wastewater from the output of three different secondary treatment facilities (Activated Sludge, Moving Bed Bioreactor and Coagulation-Flocculation) present in the municipal wastewater treatment plant of Vidy, Lausanne (Switzerland), was furt ...

Advanced Oxidation Processes and in particular photo-Fenton, represent promising strategies of pathogen inactivation in wastewater effluents. Nevertheless, its full potential is not yet unlocked, as the efficacy of photo-Fenton against viruses has not been ...

The bacterial inactivation mechanisms by solar light and the photo-Fenton process is still a matter of debate. In this study, we bring evidence towards the elucidation of the mechanisms that govern photo-Fenton disinfection at near-neutral pH. With the use ...

Impressive Imidacloprid (IMD) degradation and bacterial inactivation were attained through the photocatalytic activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) via a novel, N-doped MgO@Fe3O4, under visible light. After complete characterization (XPS, XRD, FT-IR, FE-SE ...

Clean water is essential for human survival, but access to safe drinking water remains a challenge in resource -limited regions. Herein, we explored a low-cost but effective solution for water potabilization using natural iron sources from soils along with ...

In this study, simulated solar disinfection of secondary effluent was followed by dark storage at different temperatures or different receiving water matrices. Escherichia coli illumination was followed by 3-day monitoring of the bacterial population and i ...

In this work, PtxPd1-x (x = 0, 0.5, and 1) nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized on the surface of SiO2@graphene oxide which covered by 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([bmitn] PF6) ionic liquid (IL) layer. FT-IR spectroscopy, zeta potential ...

In this work, iron oxides have been proposed as low-cost heterogeneous photo-Fenton catalysts for the simultaneous disinfection and reduction of microcontaminant load from urban wastewater in raceway pond reactors at near-neutral pH. The objective was not ...

The emergence of antibiotic resistance represents a major threat to human health. In this work we investigated the elimination of antibiotic resistant bacteria (ARB) by solar light and solar photo-Fenton processes. As such, we have designed an experimental ...

This work presents a kinetic analysis of the exogenous photo-induced disinfection of E. coli in natural waters. Herein, the inactivation of bacteria by light and photo-generated transient species, i.e., hydroxyl radical (HO center dot), excited triplet sta ...

In this work, an intensive assessment of solar disinfection of secondary wastewater was elaborated in controlled laboratory conditions. Batch tests of Escherichia coil-spiked synthetic secondary effluent, at nine different constant intensity levels, were f ...

In this study, a citrate-modified photo-Fenton process was successfully applied to decontaminate a Chlorella vulgaris microalgae culture spiked with the rotifer Brachionus calyciflorus (5 individuals mL−1). The applied treatment (1 mg L−1 Fe2+, 20 mg L−1 H ...

In this study, the anti-depressant Venlafaxine, a new emerging contaminant of interest for the Swiss legislation, was subjected to systematic degradation. In order to develop an efficient framework for the treatment of emerging contaminants at industrial s ...

Solar disinfection (SODIS) was probed for its underlying mechanism. When Escherichia coli was exposed to UVA irradiation, the dominant solar fraction acting in SODIS process, cells exhibited a shoulder before death ensued. This profile resembles cell killi ...

In this second part of the development of a mechanistic kinetic model of the solar inactivation of E. coli enhanced with hydrogen peroxide, we evaluate the mechanisms based on photonic inactivation and integrate them into the kinetic model of the dark proc ...

The present manuscript is a conceptual review concerning the photo-Fenton reaction at near-neutral pH, used for bacterial inactivation. In this first Part, an overview of the mechanisms involved, as well as the fundamental concepts governing the near-neutr ...

The effect of reactor material (borosilicate and polyethylene terephthalate-PET) and its reuse on the microbiological and chemical decontamination of water by the photo-Fenton reaction at near-neutral pH was assessed. Escherichia coli was used as an indica ...

In this work, the issue of hospital and urban wastewater treatment is studied in two different contexts, in Switzerland and in developing countries (Ivory Coast and Colombia). For this purpose, the treatment of municipal wastewater effluents is studied, si ...

In this study, we systematically investigate solar disinfection of synthetic secondary wastewater, with the effort to decrypt the effects disinfection conditions have on post-irradiation bacterial regrowth in the dark. A full factorial design of 240 experi ...

In this work, an Iodinated Contrast Medium (ICM), Iohexol, was subjected to treatment by 3 Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) (UV, UV/H2O2, UV/H2O2/Fe2+). Water, wastewater and urine were spiked with Iohexol, in order to investigate the treatment efficien ...
