Bruno Emanuel Ferreira De Sousa CorreiaThroughout my PhD and postdoctoral studies I was trained in world-renowned laboratories and institutions in the United States of America (University of Washington and The Scripps Research Institute). Very early in my scientific career I found out my fascination about protein structure and function. My PhD studies evolved in the direction of immunogen design and vaccine engineering which sparked my interest in the many needs and opportunities in vaccinology and translational research. My efforts resulted in an enlightening piece of work where for the first time, computationally designed immunogens elicited potent neutralizing antibodies. During my postdoctoral studies I joined a chemical biology laboratory at the Scripps Research Institute. In this stage I developed novel chemoproteomics methods for the identification of protein-small molecule interaction sites in complex proteomes. In March 2015, I joined the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) – Switzerland as a tenure track assistant professor. The focus of my research group is to develop computational tools for protein design with particular emphasis in applying these strategies to immunoengineering (e.g. vaccine and cancer immunotherapy). The activities in my laboratory focus on computational design methods development and experimental characterization of the designed proteins. Our laboratory has been awarded with 2 prestigious research grants from the European Research Council. Lastly, I have been awarded the prize for best teacher of Life sciences in 2019.

To motivate my engagement within the School Assembly and the Faculty Council, I would like to highlight my background and experience at EPFL. With fourteen years of experience within the institution, an intentionally atypical professional trajectory, and a background in the humanities, I bring a transversal and original perspective that I am keen to place at the service of the School Assembly and the STI Faculty.Throughout my career at EPFL, I have held administra

I am a microbial ecologist and mainly interested in factors shaping bacterial communities and functioning in freshwater ecosystems. I use combinations of field observations, experiments and molecular techniques to test hypotheses regarding the assembly of microbial communities, the influence of environmental variability and relationships between diversity and funcioning. I enjoy working in alpine environments, which are sensitive to climate change and represent excellent model systems.

Edouard BugnionEdouard Bugnion joined EPFL in 2012, where his focus is on datacenter systems. His areas of interest include operating systems, datacenter infrastructure (systems and networking), and computer architecture. Before joining EPFL, Edouard spent 18 years in the US, where he studied at Stanford and co-founded two startups: VMware and Nuova Systems (acquired by Cisco). At VMware from 1998 until 2005, he played many roles including CTO. At Nuova/Cisco from 2005 until 2011, he helped build the core engineering team and became the VP/CTO of Ciscos Server, Access, and Virtualization Technology Group, a group that brought to market Ciscos Unified Computing System (UCS) platform for virtualized datacenters. Prof. Bugnion is a Fellow of the ACM. Together with his colleagues, he received the ACM Software System Award for VMware 1.0 in 2009. His paper Disco: Running Commodity Operating Systems on Scalable Multiprocessors" received a Best Paper Award at SOSP '97 and was entered into the ACM SIGOPS Hall of Fame Award in 2008. At EPFL, he received the OSDI 2014 Best Paper Award for his work on the IX dataplane operating system

Maria BrbicMaria Brbic is an assistant professor in computer science at EPFL. Prior to joining EPFL, Maria was a postdoctoral researcher in Computer Science at Stanford University working with Jure Leskovec. She received her PhD degree from University of Zagreb in 2019, while also researching at Stanford University and University of Tokyo. Her research was awarded with the Fulbright Scholarship, L’Oreal UNESCO for Women in Science Scholarship, Branimir Jernej award for outstanding publication in biology and biomedicine, and Josip Loncar Silver Plaque award for the best doctoral dissertation. She has been named a Rising Star in EECS by MIT in 2021. Her research is focused on developing new machine learning methods and applying her methods to advance biomedical research.
Marie-Valentine Renée Agnès FlorinMarie-Valentine Florin is the executive director of the International Risk Governance Center. She organises IRGC collaborative activities, focusing in particular on the role of IRGC as a multi-stakeholder platform and a convening place at the interface between science and public policy. She joined the International Risk Governance Council (IRGC Foundation) www.irgc.org in 2006.From 2000-2006, she worked for local authorities, helping them develop and implement strategies for sustainable development, and for philanthropic and humanitarian organisations. She spent the first part of her career (1984-1999) in an international socio-cultural research and marketing consulting firm. Marie-Valentine graduated from Science Po in Paris (public policy and management), and then earned post-graduate diplomas in marketing strategy, sustainable development and environmental diplomacy. Her current involvement in IRGC activities is mostly related to:- systemic risks and transitions, governance of risks related to emerging and converging technologies- digital policy, specific risks related to machine learning- precision medicine- synthetic biology- nanotechnology- climate engineering Member of Advisory Committee to the World Economic Forum Global Risk Report 2015-2021; Fellow of the Society of Risk Analysis (SRA). Kirill NikitinHi, I am a sixth-year PhD student in the Decentralized and Distributed Systems lab at advised by Prof. Bryan Ford. My research interests revolve around the topics in Systems and Network Security, Privacy, Distributed Systems, and Smart Contracts. I am currently focused on improving security of software-update systems, reducing metadata leakage from encrypted data formats, and building a secure peer-to-peer collaboration platform.
