Sinc-shaped Nyquist pulses possess a rectangular spectrum, enabling data to be encoded in a minimum spectral bandwidth and satisfying by essence the Nyquist criterion of zero inter-symbol interference (ISI). This property makes them very attractive for com ...

Sinc-shaped Nyquist-pulses possess a rectangular spectrum. Thus, a sinc-pulse transmission minimizes the carrier spacing down to the baud rate, and therefore, substantially increases the transmissible data rates. These perspectives have led to a strong res ...

In this paper, we review a method to produce optical sinc-shaped Nyquist pulses with unprecedented quality. The method is based on the synthesis of a rectangular shaped and phase-locked frequency comb from a combination of intensity modulators. The result ...

We propose and experimentally demonstrate an all-optical Nyquist sinc-shaped pulse train source based on intensity modulation and four-wave mixing. The proposed scheme allows for the tunability of the bandwidth and the full flexibility of the repetition ra ...

A novel method using optical fiber parametric amplification and phase modulation is proposed in order to generate Nyquist pulses. Using parabolic pulses as a pump, we show theoretically that it is possible to generate Nyquist pulses. Furthermore, we show t ...

In a recent study, the theory of pulse generation with fiber optical parametric amplification using sinusoidal (clock) intensity modulated pump was revisited [1]. This work showed that the pulses generated through such parametric interaction exhibit a shap ...

We propose and experimentally demonstrate a method based on Brillouin optical time-domain analysis to measure the longitudinal signal power distribution along phase-sensitive fiber-optical parametric amplifiers (PS-FOPAs). Experimental results show that th ...

The nonlinear coefficient and group velocity dispersion of a thulium-doped fiber near 2μm are evaluated via four-wave mixing. Nonlinearity of thulium-doped fiber can be used for the design of doped-fiber lasers in this spectral region. ...

A sensitive and accurate method for dispersion map extraction along an arbitrarily profiled highly nonlinear fiber (HNLF) is proposed. High sensitivity is achieved by positioning the wavelength of a signal at the band edge of the modulation instability (MI ...

A simple analytic formula is derived to extract tiny dispersion fluctuations along highly nonlinear fibers from distributed measurements of parametric gain. A refined BOTDA scheme, suitable to track Kerr processes, enables low noise measurements. ...

A scheme based on 2-pump OPA is proposed for uniform wavelength conversion and optimized compression. We show 4.7-fold compression over 32 nm range resulting in Gaussian pulses from sinusoidal modulation and enabling simultaneous compression of WDM channel ...

Simultaneous all-optical 3R regeneration of WDM channels is demonstrated, based on dual-pump parametric amplification with sinusoidal modulated pumps. We observe receiver sensitivity improvement better than 1.5dB for five WDM channels modulated with 10Gb/s ...

A method to measure the signal power evolution along phase-sensitive parametric amplifiers is proposed using Brillouin optical time-domain analysis. Different evolutions along the fiber are reported by varying input wave phases, including amplification and ...

Optical sinc-shaped Nyquist pulses are produced based on the generation of an ideal frequency comb using cascaded intensity modulators. Nyquist pulses with 9.8-ps temporal width, 82-fs jitter and more than 40 dB SNR are achieved. ...

System and methods for producing a plurality of Sinc shaped pulses in the time domain include a light source for providing an input light signal having an input frequency, and at least one spectrum shaper for producing the plurality of Sinc shaped pulses f ...

A method to produce highly-stable optical sinc-shaped pulses is proposed based on the generation of a rectangular-spectrum frequency comb. Nyquist pulses with

A Brillouin probing method is proposed to extract the distribution of signal power along phase-sensitive parametric amplifiers. Operation near the zero-dispersion-wavelength shows enhanced sensitivity to dispersion fluctuations, allowing effective extracti ...

A tunable, stable pulse generation technique based on two-pump fiber optic parametric amplification is theoretically analyzed and experimentally demonstrated to generate uniform near-Gaussian pulses over 32 nm. It is shown that pulse shape can also be tune ...

We present the first demonstration of continuous-wave four-wave mixing at 2μm in short chalcogenide microstructured fiber. Idlers over approximately 15nm on anti-Stokes side of the pump were measured for a coupled pump power of 94mW. ...
