The present article describes the preliminary design studies for an oncoming experimental programme at the CROCUS facility. CROCUS is a teaching and research zero-power reactor operated by the Laboratory for Reactor Physics and Systems Behaviour (LRS) at t ...

This article presents the development, full-characterization, and in-core testing of a miniature neutron detector for the investigation of highly localized in-core neutronics effects in the zero-power reactor CROCUS, operated at the Ecole Polytechnique fed ...

The present manuscript documents the development of a practical calculation scheme to model the response of a diamond detector in the mixed (neutron and gamma) radiation field of the CROCUS experimental reactor at EPFL. The model is shown to perform reason ...

This article presents the results of an experimental campaign in the CROCUS zero power reactor aimed at investigating the spatial effects of neutron noise measurements. Neutron noise measurements offer a non-invasive method to determine kinetic reactor par ...

The possibility of measuring the gas-phase velocity in a two-phase mixture through the use of neutron noise techniques is demonstrated in the zero-power reactor CROCUS of the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne. It is the first step toward the experim ...

This paper is an overview of developments and results regarding neutron noise measurements in current mode at the CROCUS zero power facility. Neutron noise measurements offer a noninvasive method to determine kinetic reactor parameters such as the prompt d ...

Interest in fast and easy detection of high-energy radiation (x-, gamma-rays and neutrons) is closely related to numerous practical applications ranging from biomedicine and industry to homeland security issues. In this regard, crystals of hybrid halide pe ...

We experimentally demonstrate the advantages of gamma detection for noise measurements to deter-mine the prompt neutron decay constant a of a nuclear reactor using the power spectral density (PSD) method, coupled to a new uncertainty estimation scheme base ...

An advanced neutron detection system for highly localized measurements in nuclear reactor cores was developed and tested in the Laboratory for Reactor Physics and System Behaviour (LRS) at the Ecole polytechnique federale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, i ...

Gamma-rays (gamma-rays), wherever present, e.g., in medicine, nuclear environment, or homeland security, due to their strong impact on biological matter, should be closely monitored. There is a need for simple, sensitive gamma-ray detectors at affordable p ...

Gamma rays in nuclear reactors, arising either from nuclear reactions or decay processes, significantly contribute to the heating and dose of the reactor components. Zero power research reactors offer the possibility to measure gamma rays in a purely neutr ...

The present article describes the preliminary design studies for PETALE (Programme d'Etude en Transmission de l'Acier Lourd et ses Elements), an oncoming experimental program in the CROCUS reactor. Within the framework of the Venus-Eole-Proteus collaborati ...

The paper describes the source term estimation of CROCUS, the zero power research reactor of EPFL, to be used for dispersion analysis under accidental conditions. To fulfil regulatory requirements, the source term of the CROCUS fuel is estimated through Mo ...

We report in the present article on the successful observation using noise analysis of the lateral oscillation of one fuel rod by +/- 2.5 mm around nominal at 0.1 Hz frequency, using an mm(3) miniature neutron scintillator at the rod level, and a BGO gamma ...

Gamma rays are an inextricable part of a nuclear reactor's radiation field, and as such require characterization for dose rate estimations required for the radiation protection of personnel, material choices, and the design of nuclear facilities. Most comm ...

Hybrid halide perovskites have demonstrated significant efficiency in detecting a broad spectrum of high-energy radiation, including X-rays, gamma rays (γ-rays), and neutrons. Given the common occurrence of mixed radiation fields, we investigated the perfo ...

The present article gives an overview of the first experimental campaigns carried out in the AKR-2 and CROCUS reactors within the framework of the Horizon 2020 European project CORTEX. CORTEX aims at developing innovative core monitoring techniques that al ...

We present the experimental campaigns – namely, three per facility – carried out between 2018 and 2021 in the AKR–2 and CROCUS zero power reactors within the framework of the Horizon 2020 European project CORTEX. Their purpose was to produce high-quality a ...

The present article provides an overview of the design of a three-dimensional (3D) full-core mapping system for the CROCUS reactor, operated at the Ecole polytechnique federale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland. The system is composed of 149 miniature neutro ...

The present article summarizes the development and testing of a reactivity modulation device developed by the French Atomic and Alternative Energies Commission (CEA). It was installed in the CROCUS reactor of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in La ...
