We explore two methods for single-crystal growth of the theoretically proposed magnetic Weyl semimetals RAlGe (R = Pr, Ce), which prove that a floating-zone technique, being both crucible- and flux-free, is crucial to obtain perfectly stoichiometric RAlGe ...

We have used inelastic neutron scattering to measure the magnetic excitation spectrum along the high-symmetry directions of the first Brillouin zone of the magnetic skyrmion hosting compound Cu2OSeO3. The majority of our scattering data are consistent with ...

We report the engineering of spin-hedgehog crystals in thin films of the chiral magnet MnGe by tailoring the magnetic anisotropy. As evidenced by neutron scattering on films with different thicknesses and by varying a magnetic field, we can realize continu ...

Helimagnetic materials are identified as promising for novel spintronic applications. Since helical spin order is manifested as a compromise of competing magnetic exchange interactions, its emergence is limited by unique constraints imposed by the crystall ...

Combining inelastic neutron scattering and numerical simulations, we study the quasi-one-dimensional Ising anisotropic quantum antiferromagnet BaCo2V2O8 in a longitudinal magnetic field. This material shows a quantum phase transition from a Neel ordered ph ...

Multiple-q spin order, i.e., a spin texture characterized by a multiple number of coexisting magnetic modulation vectors q, has recently attracted attention as a source of nontrivial magnetic topology and associated emergent phenomena. One typical example ...

The helical magnetic structures of cubic chiral systems are well explained by the competition among Heisen-berg exchange, Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction, cubic anisotropy, and anisotropic exchange interaction (AEI). Recently, the role of the latter has ...

Following the early prediction of the skyrmion lattice (SkL)-a periodic array of spin vortices-it has been observed recently in various magnetic crystals mostly with chiral structure. Although non-chiral but polar crystals with C-nv symmetry were identifie ...

Uniquely in Cu2OSeO3, the Skyrmions, which are topologically protected magnetic spin vortexlike objects, display a magnetoelectric coupling and can be manipulated by externally applied electric (E) fields. Here, we explore the E-field coupling to the magne ...

We report that in a β-Mn-type chiral magnet Co9Zn9Mn2, skyrmions are realized as a metastable state over a wide temperature range, including room temperature, via field cooling through the thermodynamic equilibrium skyrmion phase that exists below a transi ...

Magnetic skyrmions are topologically protected spin-whirls currently considered as promising for use in ultra-dense memory devices. Towards achieving this goal, exploration of the skyrmion phase response and under external stimuli is urgently required. Her ...

Magnetic skyrmions are promising candidates as information carriers in logic or storage devices thanks to their robustness, guaranteed by the topological protection, and their nanometric size. Currently, little is known about the influence of parameters su ...

We report on small-angle neutron scattering studies of the intrinsic vortex lattice (VL) structure in detwinned YBa2Cu3O7 at 2 K, and in fields up to 10.8 T. Because of the suppressed pinning to twin-domain boundaries, a new distorted hexagonal VL structur ...

Magnetic helices and skyrmions in noncentrosymmetric magnets are representative examples of chiral spin textures in solids. Their spin swirling direction, often termed as the magnetic helicity and defined as either left handed or right handed, is uniquely ...

Single phase and strained LuMnO3 thin films are discovered to display coexisting ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic orders. A large moment ferromagnetism (approximate to 1 mu(B)), which is absent in bulk samples, is shown to display a magnetic moment dist ...

Magnetic skyrmions are vortex-like topological spin textures often observed to form a triangular-lattice skyrmion crystal in structurally chiral magnets with the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. Recently, beta-Mn structure-type Co-Zn-Mn alloys were ident ...

Using superconducting quantum interference device magnetometry techniques, we have studied the change in magnetization versus applied ac electric field, i.e. the magnetoelectric (ME) susceptibility dM/dE, in the chiral-lattice ME insulator Cu2OSeO3. Measur ...

We report small-angle neutron scattering measurements of the vortex lattice (VL) structure in single crystals of the lightly underdoped cuprate superconductor YBa2Cu3O6.85. At 2 K, and for fields of up to 16 T applied parallel to the crystal c-axis, we obs ...

The layered cobaltite Sr2CaYCo4O10.5 with formal average cobalt oxidation state close to 3+ has been studied as functions of both temperature and pressure up to 4GPa by neutron powder diffraction (NPD). The crystal structure is shown to have tetragonal sym ...
