The identification of kinetic models is an essential step for the monitoring, control and optimization of industrial processes. This is particularly true for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, where the current trend of strong competition calls fo ...

Many chemical and biochemical industries utilize chemical reaction processes to get desired products from raw materials. Common examples include reaction systems used to manufacture pharmaceutical drugs, vaccines and other chemicals. A chemical reaction sy ...

The identification of kinetic models is an important step for the monitoring, control and optimization of industrial processes. This is particularly the case for highly competitive business sectors such as chemical and pharmaceutical industries, where the ...

Kinetic models of chemical reaction systems are typically represented in terms of state variables, such as concentrations, temperature and partial pressures [1]. These state variables in turn depend on the underlying reactions, transfer phenomena, and tran ...

Identification of kinetic models is an important task for monitoring, control and optimization of industrial processes. Kinetic models are often based on first principles, which describe the evolution of the states – numbers of moles, temperature and volum ...

Process monitoring and fault diagnosis are broadly used to control quality and enforce safety compliance in industrial processes. Processes are commonly monitored by online spectroscopy, with either PCA or calibration techniques such as PLS being used to p ...

Models of open non-isothermal heterogeneous reaction systems can be quite complex as they include information regarding the reactions, the inlet and outlet flows, the transfer of species between phases and the transfer of energy. This paper builds on the c ...

Abstract of the conference paper Concentrations measured during the course of a chemical reaction are corrupted with noise, which reduces the quality of information. Since these measurements are used for identifying kinetic models, the noise imp ...

Identification of kinetic models is an important step for the monitoring, control and optimization of chemical and pharmaceutical processes. Furthermore, the availability of a first-principles model often leads to substantial reduction in process developme ...

Models of chemical reactors can be quite complex as they include information regarding the reactions, the transfer of species between phases, the transfer of energy, and the inlet and outlet flows. Furthermore, the effects of the various phenomena are quit ...

Extent-based kinetic identification is a kinetic modeling technique that uses concentrations measurements to compute extents and identify reaction kinetics by the integral method of parameter estimation. This article considers the case where spectroscopic ...

Identification of kinetic models and estimation of reaction and mass-transfer parameters can be performed using the extent-based identification method, whereby each chemical/physical process is handled separately [1-3]. This method is used here to analyze ...

Model structure selection and parameter identification for biokinetic modeling of biological wastewater treatment processes is broadly accepted to be a complicated task. Contributing factors include (i) nonlinear behavior, (ii) lack of knowledge, (iii) lac ...

Identification of kinetic models is essential for monitoring, control and optimization of industrial processes. Robust kinetic models are often based on first-principles and described by differential equations. Identification of reaction kinetics, namely r ...

Modeling chemical reaction systems is an important but complex task. The identified kinetic model must be able to explain all the underlying rate processes such as chemical reactions and heat and mass transfers. Traditionally, the modeling task is carried ...

Empirical model identification for biological systems is a challenging task due to the combined effects of complex interactions, nonlinear effects, and lack of specific measurements. In this context, several researchers have provided tools for experimental ...

State estimation techniques are used for improving the quality of measured signals and for reconstructing unmeasured quantities. In chemical reaction systems, nonlinear estimators are often used to improve the quality of estimated concentrations. These non ...

Extent-based incremental identification uses the concept of extents and the integral method of parameter estimation to identify reaction kinetics from concentration measurements. The approach is rather general and can be applied to open both homogeneous an ...

The development of a wide array of process technologies to enable the shift from conventional biological wastewater treatment processes to resource recovery systems is matched by an increasing demand for predictive capabilities. Mathematical models are exc ...
