The energy sector is not only a major contributor to greenhouse gases, it is also vulnerable to climate change and will have to adapt to future climate conditions. The objective of this study is to analyze the impacts of changes in future temperatures on t ...

This paper develops a modelling framework that links GEMINI-E3, a multi-regional, multi-sectoral computable general equilibrium model with a cost-benefit analysis approach at local level using geographical information system tools to assess the physical an ...

This paper deals with an application of the robust equilibrium concept in game theory to the assessment of the possible international agreement on climate that could be achieved in the conference of the parties negotiations organized by the UNFCCC. It is s ...

A linear programming framework is proposed to model distribution network characteristics, and market clearing processes for flexible load and distributed energy resources providing reserve and reactive power compensation. One shows that the Nash equilibriu ...

This paper gives a detailed description of the ETEM-SG model, which pro- vides a simulation of the long term development of a multi-energy regional energy system in a smart city environment. The originality of the modeling comes from a representation of th ...

This paper aims at simulating deep decarbonization pathways for Switzerland. The analysis relies on macro-economic simulations of GEMINI-E3, a computable general equilibrium model used to assess the energy and economic impacts of a Swiss low carbon society ...

Using a multi-level perspective approach combined with top-down macroeconomic models, we analyze the situation of the GCC countries in the perspective of a global transition to zero-net emissions before the end of the century. Based on these analyses, we p ...

At COP21, about 160 countries proposed the so-called INDCs that define GHG abatement objectives by 2030. While encouraging, these commitments are not ambitious enough to achieve the 2°C threshold by 2100, and further negotiations are needed for sharing the ...

In this paper we explore the impact of several sources of uncertainties on the assessment of energy and climate policies when one uses in an harmonized way stochastic programming (SP) in a large scale bottom-up (BU) model and Monte-Carlo simulation (MC) in ...

Energy supply routes to a given region are subject to random events, resulting in partial or total closure of a route (corridor). For instance: a pipeline may be subject to technical problems that reduce its capacity. Or, oil supply by tanker may be reduce ...

In this paper we propose a stochastic non-cooperative meta-game approach to assess the role of uncertain CCS deployment on climate agreements among 28 European countries. The game model is identified through statistical emulation of a large set of numerica ...

A compact operations research (OR) model is proposed to analyse the prospects of meeting the Paris Agreement targets when direct air capture technologies can be used or not. The main features of the model are (i) the representation of the economy and energ ...

In this paper, we evaluate the recent developments of European climate policy from the perspective of the 2050 European commitments with regards to GHG emissions reduction. We use a non-cooperative meta-game approach for assessing European burden-sharing i ...

This paper deals with the modeling of the long term evolution of regional energy systems in a smart city and smart grid environment. It is shown that demand response and distributed grid energy storage, driven by dynamic pricing schemes, based on locationa ...

This paper proposes an assessment of long-term climate strategies for oil- and gas-producing countries-in particular, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states-as regards the Paris Agreement goal of limiting the increase of surface air temperature t ...

This chapter explores the challenges and options of designing an efficient long-term global climate policy for Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The authors start by reviewing the exposure of GCC countries to climate risks and the mitigation and ad ...

We provide an introduction to ETEM-SG, a robust linear programming approach specifically designed for regional energy systems analysis. This model can be used to provide prospective analyses of the long-term (30 years and more) evolution of multi-energy re ...

We use the flexible model coupling technology known as the bespoke framework generator to link established existing modules representing dynamics in the global economy (GEMINI-E3), the energy system (TIAM-WORLD), the global and regional climate system (MAG ...

The aim of this paper is to explore the long-term relevance of negative emissions for the attainment of Paris agreement goals. For this purpose, we extend a game theoretic meta-model used to assess the future of Paris agreement to the time horizon 2100 and ...
