The generation of synthetic populations through simulation methods is an important research topic and has a key application in agent-based modeling of transport and land use. The next step in this research area is the generation of complete synthetic house ...

The need for forecasting the direct and indirect effects of land use and transport policies on society, the environment, and the local economy has led to the development of integrated land use and transport (LUTI) models. The land use and transport policy ...

Investigating the factors and processes that influence the spatiotemporal distribution of built space and population in an urban area, plays an extremely important role in our greater understanding of the urban travel behaviour. Existing location of activi ...

This paper develops a framework for understanding pedestrian mobility pattern from WiFi traces and other data sources. It can be used to forecast demand for pedestrian facilities such as railway stations, music festivals, campus, airports, supermarkets or ...

A macroscopic loading model applicable to time-dependent and congested pedestrian flows in public walking areas is proposed. Building on the continuum theory of pedestrian flows and the cell transmission model for car traffic, an isotropic framework is dev ...

In the context of integrated transportation and other urban engineering infrastructure systems, there are many examples of markets, where consumers exhibit price-taking behaviour. While this behaviour is ubiquitous, the underlying mechanism can be captured ...

Microsimulation of urban systems evolution requires synthetic population as a key input. Currently, the focus is on treating synthesis as a fitting problem and thus various techniques have been developed, including Iterative Proportional Fitting (IPF) and ...

In this paper, we propose a methodology to use the communication network infrastructure, in particular WiFi traces, to detect the sequence of activity episodes visited by pedestrians. Due to the poor quality of WiFi localization, a probabilistic method is ...

The spatial and temporal distribution of built space supply plays an important role in shaping urban form and thus the general travel pattern in an urban area. Within an integrated framework, we are interested in modeling the decisions of a builder in term ...

The ILUTE (Integrated Land Use, Transportation, Environment) model system is an agent-based microsimulation model for the Greater Toronto-Hamilton Area (GTHA) in which disaggregate, process-based models of spatial socio-economic processes are used to evolv ...

We propose a probabilistic modeling approach to represent the speed-density relationship of pedestrian traffic. The approach is data-driven, and it is motivated by the presence of high scatter in the raw data that we have analyzed. We show the validity of ...
