Anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases due to human activity is causing global warming and inducing climate change. A major implication of global warming is the decreasing ice mass in the polar regions resulting in sea-level rise. It is now known that ...

Sublimation of drifting and blowing snow has been recognized as an important component of the surface mass budget of polar and alpine regions. The Thorpe and Mason (TM) model is the basis of all existing small and largescale estimates of drifting snow sub ...

The surface mass balance (SMB) of large polar ice sheets and of snow and ice surfaces in general are incompletely understood because of the complexity of processes involved. One such process, drifting and blowing snow, has only been considered in a very si ...

Until last year, most of Switzerland's photovoltaic (PV) installations were built on roof tops. But the amount added is not enough to reach the country's energy transition goals. With the adjustments of September 2023, the government incentivizes large-sca ...

Cellular-automata-based modelling for simulating snow bedforms and snow deposition is introduced in this study. The well-known ReSCAL model, previously used for sand bedforms, is adapted for this purpose by implementing a simple sintering mechanism. The ef ...

Most large-eddy simulation studies related to wind energy have been carried out either by using a fixed pressure gradient to ensure that mean wind direction is perpendicular to the wind turbine rotor disk or by forcing the flow with a geostrophic wind and ...

Spatially distributed meteorological information at the slope scale is relevant for many processes in complex terrain, yet information at this sub-km spatial resolution is difficult to obtain. While downscaling to kilometer resolutions is well described in ...

The effect of extensive terrestrial wind farms on the spatio-temporal structure of the diurnally-evolving atmospheric boundary layer is explored. High-resolution large-eddy simulations of a realistic diurnal cycle with an embedded wind farm are performed. ...

In this work we create new understanding of wind turbine wakes recovery process as a function of wind farm density using large-eddy simulations of an atmospheric boundary layer diurnal cycle. Simulations are forced with a constant geostrophic wind and a ti ...

A search is presented for high-mass exclusive diphoton production via photon-photon fusion in proton-proton collisions at root s = 13 TeV in events where both protons survive the interaction. The analysis utilizes data corresponding to an integrated lumino ...

This repository contains data required for reproducibility of the results to be published in the associated manuscript. Apart from reproducibility, the attached datasets also serve as templates for new users to adopt CRYOWRF in their research. The datasets ...

Snow distribution in complex alpine terrain and its evolution in the future climate is important in a variety of applications including hydropower, avalanche forecasting and freshwater resources. However, it is still challenging to quantitatively forecast ...

In this work the redistribution and recovery of mean kinetic energy in a realistic, finite size wind farm is studied for neutral atmospheric boundary layer conditions. Five different wind farm configurations, with different wind turbine arrangements, are c ...

The Thorpe and Mason (TM) model for calculating the mass lost from a sublimating snow grain is the basis of all existing small-and large-scale estimates of drifting snow sublimation and the associated snow mass balance of polar and alpine regions. We revis ...

The influence of drifting and blowing snow on surface mass and energy exchange is difficult to quantify due to limitations in both measurements and models, but is still potentially very important over large areas with seasonal or perennial snow cover. We p ...

Regardless of the evolution of wind energy harvesting, the way in which turbines obtain in-situ meteorological information remains the same - i.e. using traditional wind vanes and cup anemometers installed at the turbine's nacelle, right behind the blades. ...

Accurately simulating snow-cover dynamics and the snow-atmosphere coupling is of major importance for topics as wide-ranging as water resources, natural hazards and climate change impacts with consequences for sea-level rise. We present a new modelling fra ...

This paper studies numerically the convection of water vapour in snowpacks using an Eulerian-Eulerian two-phase approach. The convective water vapour transport in snow and its effects on snow density are often invoked to explain observed density profiles, ...

The Review summarizes much of particle physics and cosmology. Using data from previous editions, plus 2,873 new measurements from 758 papers, we list, evaluate, and average measured properties of gauge bosons and the recently discovered Higgs boson, lepton ...
