A Muon Spin Rotation (mu+SR) study was conducted to investigate the magnetic properties of SrCu2(BO3)(2) (SCBO) as a function of temperature/pressure. Measurements in zero field and transverse field confirm the absence of long range magnetic order at high ...

Solid state diffusion is a very complex mechanism and, up until recent studies, such properties had mainly been conducted by macroscopic methods that do not yield true material properties. This has been a major problem for materials development regarding e ...

We report ac susceptibility, specific heat, and neutron scattering measurements on a dipolar-coupled antiferromagnet LiYbF4. For the thermal transition, the order-parameter critical exponent is found to be 0.20(1) and the specific-heat critical exponent -0 ...

We show using detailed magnetic and thermodynamic studies and theoretical calculations that the ground state of Ba3ZnIr2O9 is a realization of a novel spin-orbital liquid state. Our results reveal that Ba3ZnIr2O9 with Ir5+ (5d(4)) ions and strong spin-orbi ...

Combining inelastic neutron scattering and numerical simulations, we study the quasi-one-dimensional Ising anisotropic quantum antiferromagnet BaCo2V2O8 in a longitudinal magnetic field. This material shows a quantum phase transition from a Neel ordered ph ...

A systematic angle-resolved photoemission study of the electronic structure of La2-xSrxCuO4 in a wide doping range is presented in this paper. In addition to the main energy band, we observed a weaker additional band, the (pi, pi) folded band, which shows ...

We have studied low-temperature magnetic properties as well as high-temperature lithium ion diffusion in the battery cathode materials LixNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/1O2 by the use of muon spin rotation/relaxation. Our data reveal that the samples enter into a 2D spin-g ...

electronic band structure of MgB2 involves a unique combination of two-and three-dimensional (3D) electrons derived from the boron sigma and pi states, respectively. We have mapped out the sigma and pi bands over the complete Brillouin zone, including the ...

We demonstrate the existence of the spin-nematic interactions in an easy-plane type antiferromagnet Ba2CoGe2O7 by exploring the magnetic anisotropy and spin dynamics. The combination of neutron scattering and magnetic susceptibility measurements reveals th ...

We have used the pulsed muon source at ISIS to study high-temperature Na-ion dynamics in the quasi-one-dimensional (Q1D) metallic antiferromagnet NaV2O4. By performing systematic zero-field and longitudinal-field measurements as a function of temperature w ...

Developments in modern neutron spectroscopy have led to typical sample sizes decreasing from few cm to several mm in diameter samples. We demonstrate how small samples together with the right choice of analyser and detector components makes distance collim ...

The layered transition-metal oxide Nax CoO2 has been studied extensively both for its correlated electronic properties as well as for potential battery applications. It was discovered that high-temperature Na ion vacancy order and dynamics can be very usef ...

In order to elucidate the magnetic ground state of Sr2VO4, we have measured muon spin rotation and relaxation (mu+SR) spectra of a powder sample in the temperature range between 1.8 and 140 K. As a result, we have clarified that the transition at 105 K is ...

The Cr5+ ions in Sr3Cr2O8 constitute a strongly correlated spin-1/2 dimer system. Experiments show that the collective singlet-triplet excitations in this system are well defined in the zero-temperature limit, but, when heated, the inelastic neutron scatte ...

Cation-ordered Li[Ni1/2Mn3/2]O-4 with a P4(3)32 space group (CO-LNMO) and "cation-disordered'' (CDO) LNMO are thought to be the state-of-the-art materials for lithium-ion batteries. However, in contrast to CO-LNMO, the crystal structure and electrochemical ...

In a paramagnetic state of Li2MnO3, i.e. at temperatures above T-N = 35 K, muon-spin relaxation (mu+SR) measurements with zero applied magnetic field (ZF) and longitudinal-field (LF) revealed the presence of a dynamic fluctuation of a nuclear magnetic fiel ...
