The authors present a statistical study of residual disorder in nominally identical planar photonic crystal waveguides operating in the slow light regime. The focus is on the role played by the subnanometer scaled residual disorder inherent to state-of-the ...

Compact semiconductor light sources with high performance continuous-wave (CW) and single mode operation are highly demanded for many applications in the terahertz (THz) frequency range. Distributed feedback (DFB) and photonic crystal (PhC) quantum cascade ...

We demonstrate a resonant optical trapping mechanism based on two-dimensional hollow photonic crystal cavities. This approach benefits simultaneously from the resonant nature and unprecedented field overlap with the trapped specimen. The photonic crystal s ...

The optomechanical coupling between a resonant optical field and a nanoparticle through trapping forces is demonstrated. Resonant optical trapping, when achieved in a hollow photonic crystal cavity is accompanied by cavity backaction effects that result fr ...

We investigate an air-slot photonic crystal cavity for high-precision refractive index sensing. The high quality factor ∼2:6 × 10^4 of the cavity, along with a strong overlap between the resonant mode and the hollow core region, allows us to achieve an exp ...

We report on the first experimental demonstration of resonant optical trapping of dielectric particles in a two-dimensional hollow photonic crystal cavity. The cavities are implemented in an optofluidic chip consisting of a silicon-on-insulator substrate a ...

We theoretically and experimentally investigate a band edge Photonic Crystal (PhC) Quantum Cascade Laser (QCL) operating at 3.1 THz. The surface emission is achieved by using a second-order Bragg grating at the PhC tile boundaries. Highly directional surfa ...

A microfluidic-integrated single particle sensor based on hollow photonic crystal cavities is reported. The interaction relies on the reversible resonance frequency shift induced by a dielectric particle near the cavity. ...

We investigate hollow photonic crystal structures consisting in air-slot photonic crystal nanocavities. The high quality factor similar to 2.6x10(4) of such cavities along with a strong overlap between the resonant mode and the hollow core region allows fo ...
