The new GPS/Galileo/Compass signals use much longer code lengths and higher code frequencies than the GPS L1 C/A signal. As a result, they can provide improved ranging and anti-jamming performances. Unfortunately, their acquisition complexity is significan ...

This paper describes a prototype solution which has been developed to provide both the positioning availability and integrity required for this application. The SIGNATURE (SImple GNSS Assisted & TrUsted REceiver) solution includes an assistance service whi ...

With modern global navigation satellite system (GNSS) signals, the FFT-based parallel code search acquisition must handle the frequent sign transitions due to the data or the secondary code. There is a straightforward solution to this problem, which consis ...

The acquisition of global navigation satellite system signals can be performed using a fast Fourier transform (FFT). The FFT-based acquisition performs a circular correlation, and is thus sensitive to potential transitions between consecutive periods of th ...

There are mainly three well-known techniques to acquire a GNSS signal. The first, called Serial Search Acquisition, consist in correlating the Pseudo-Random Noise (PRN) codes for all the codes phases and all the frequency bins. The two others make use of t ...

The innovative spreading codes used to modulate the new Galileo signals creates new challenges for receiver designers. It is well known in GNSS systems that longer integration times are needed to obtain a better sensitivity. However, the existence of the n ...

The modern global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) signals, such as the Global Positioning System (GPS) L5 and L1C, and Galileo E5 and E1, have brought several innovations: the introduction of a pilot channel that does not contain any data to allow very ...

One of the method to have a fast acquisition of GNSS signals is the parallel code-phase search, which uses the fast Fourier transform (FFT) to perform the correlation. A problem with this method is the potential sign transition that can happen between two ...

For use in billing drivers in road-user charging schemes, onboard units employing GNSS must meet stringent reliability and availability requirements, and at the same time, be based on low-cost equipment systems. The SIGNATURE unit includes an assistance se ...

Moisture content in the soil and snow in the alpine environment is an important factor, not only for environmentally oriented research, but also for decision making in agriculture and hazard management. Current observation techniques quantifying soil moist ...

The acquisition of Global Navigation Satellite Systems signals using Code Division Multiple Access can be performed through classical correlation or using a Fourier transform. These methods are well known but what is missing is a comparison of their perfor ...

Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSSs) were originally introduced to provide positioning and timing services for terrestrial Earth users. However, space users increasingly rely on GNSS for spacecraft navigation and other science applications at severa ...

It is well known that reflected signals from Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) can be used for altimetry applications, such as monitoring of water levels and determining snow height. Due to the interference of these reflected signals and the motio ...

Roads right across Europe are becoming more congested and governments and regional authorities are looking for ways to better manage the existing road network. One tool that is being increasingly promoted to tackle the congestion challenge is Road User Cha ...
