This paper describes a low power Ultra-Wideband Impulse Radio (UWB-IR) Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) transmitter implemented in UMC 0.18 μm. This transmitter has been designed for low data rate communication applications and indoor positio ...

A few years ago an experimental platform was designed and built in order to demonstrate the feasibility of Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology applied to indoor positioning. This small-scale demonstrator proved to be a valuable research tool with the flexibili ...

Next generation of smart tires will improve the safety and stability of the vehicle by monitoring road parameters, such as pavement and rolling conditions, with sensors placed on tire surface. Between the tread and the metal belt of the tire there are only ...

We propose an autonomous battery-less wireless sensor node that combines on a single printed circuit board an ultra-wideband (UWB) transmitter and its printed antenna, together with a piezoelectric cantilever and a solar cell array to harvest vibrations an ...

This paper describes a detailed design procedure for an efficient thermal body energy harvesting integrated power converter. The procedure is based on the examination of power loss and power transfer in a converter for a self-powered medical device. The ef ...

This paper describes a system to drive piezoelectric actuators over more than one decade of voltages and one octave of frequencies, in order to perform high-speed complex impedance characterization at a user chosen voltage excitation level. This characteri ...

We explore a miniature sensor node that could be placed in an environment which would interrogate, take decisions and transmit autonomously and seamlessly without the need of a battery. With the system completely powered by an energy harvester for autonomo ...

This paper describes a design procedure for an efficient body thermal energy harvesting integrated power converter. This procedure is based on loss examination for a self-powered medical device. All optimum system parameters are calculated respecting the t ...

An Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) using the low duty-cycle nature of pulse-based Ultra Wide-Band (UWB) communications to reduce its power consumption is proposed. Implemented in CMOS 180 nm technology, it can capture a 5 ns window at 4 GS/s each 100 ns, ...
